🌱🐑 Growing Future Farmers Lamb Competition at Ovation Gisborne 🐑🌱

Growing Future Farmers provides the opportunity for motivated young people to enter the sheep, beef and deer industry with the confidence of supported training and development. This week we hosted them at our Ovation Gisborne Plant.

Students selected and tagged their lambs at docking from GFF Farms, with the goal of producing an animal that would achieve a carcass weight of 18–26kg on the hook. The competition began with the lambs being judged on the hoof before students followed their animals through the processing journey, gaining valuable insight into the livestock processing industry.

The following day, students returned to take part in boning out their own lambs alongside Ovation staff. They then took home their vacuum-packed lamb cuts, completing a true farm-to-plate learning experience.

Congratulations to all the students who participated, and we are excited to hear who wins in October. The quality of the lambs was exceptional, and the knife skills on display were equally impressive. It was fantastic to see such enthusiasm, dedication, and talent from the next generation of New Zealand farmers.

🐑🏇 Proud to be back at Badminton!

Ovation were once again proud sponsors at the iconic Badminton Horse Trials, supporting our incredible Equestrian Sports NZ team! 🇳🇿

For over 10 years, we've been fuelling the ESNZ tent with the best New Zealand lamb - and this year was no exception. There's nothing quite like firing up the BBQ and bringing a little taste of home to one of the biggest events on the NZ equestrian calendar. 🔥

A huge thanks to the amazing team at the ESNZ tent who do such a fantastic job year after year. We couldn't be prouder to stand behind our riders on the world stage. 👏

SIX GOLDS. TWO SILVERS. One incredible weekend. 🥇🥈

We couldn't be prouder of our ambassadors, Jacqueline and Maxwell Kennedy, following their outstanding performances at the 2026 NZ Canoe Sprint Nationals.

Jacqueline was simply dominant in the U18 women's events, claiming 6 National GOLD MEDALS - K1 500m, K1 1000m, K2 200m, K2 500m, K4 200m and K4 500m. An extraordinary performance from an extraordinary athlete. 🔥

Not to be outdone, Maxwell stepped up to the U23 men's competition and delivered two SILVER MEDALS - K1 1000m and K2 200m - plus a highly competitive 4th in the K2 500m, racing against older and more experienced athletes.

All of this achieved at a championship thrown into chaos by Cyclone Vaianu, with three days of racing compressed into just over one. The Kennedy siblings showed exactly the resilience, dedication and class that make us so proud to have them represent Ovation.

Congratulations to you both - we can't wait to see what comes next. 🌟

🌳Progress Update🌳

Last year, Ovation, in partnership with Trees for Survival, sponsored Makauri School in Gisborne, supporting their plant-growing unit and hosting a planting day on one of our Ovation suppliers’ farms.

A total of 1,000 native seedlings were carefully nurtured and potted by the students before being planted at Wilencote Station to support the restoration of its wetland area.

Yesterday, the Ovation team joined Matt, Megan, and Ida Humphreys at Wilencote Station to check on the progress of the trees. As Joe explained below, we cleared the surrounding areas around each plant to promote healthy growth and help ensure their long-term survival—giving these young native plants the best possible chance to thrive.

We currently have another 1,000 seedlings in the plant-growing unit, being nurtured by the students as they prepare to be planted on another Ovation supplier's farm.
