Radburnd Cellars Purchases Historic Stonecroft Hawke’s Bay Winery.

Radburnd Cellars puts down permanent roots at historic Hawke’s Bay winery. One of Hawke’s Bay’s most respected winemaking names has found a permanent home, with the Radburnd Family purchasing the historic Stonecroft Winery on the Gimblett Gravels, from Fistonich Family Vineyards.

For Kate and her family, the purchase has particular significance. Kate has spent nearly 45 years making wine in Hawke’s Bay, much of that time working with fruit grown on the Gimblett Gravels. Her husband Simon also has a long connection to the area, having spent many years establishing and managing the neighbouring Craggy Range vineyard.

Radburnd Cellars will officially open its Gimblett Gravels site on a date to be announced.

We are simply delighted to share that we have purchased Stonecroft Winery, and we finally have a permanent home.

This is more than a new address. Kate has spent nearly 45 years making wine here in Hawke’s Bay, the majority of that time on Gimblett Gravels soils. Now owning a piece of the district’s founding history feels like the perfect full-circle moment. Simon, Kate’s husband, spent many years establishing and running the neighbouring Craggy Range vineyard, so Stonecroft now sits alongside land that shaped the Radburnd family. In many ways, it feels like coming home.

We have known Dr Alan Limmer, founder of Stonecroft, for over 40 years and understand what he set out to achieve when he built this property. This is a winery rich in history and we’re proud to carry that legacy forward, making small batches of exceptional wine, based on what we believe Hawke’s Bay grows best.

This marks our fourth site as a winery, including the loss of our original home during Cyclone Gabrielle. We are now able to put down roots and make this place our own. Fistonich Family Vineyards retains ownership of the Stonecroft wine brand which continues to be made at their historic 1930’s Bayview Winery in Hawke’s Bay.

There’s a small detail that makes this feel especially fitting. 121 was the address of the Radburnd family home growing up, so to now find ourselves at 121 Mere Road feels like more than coincidence.

We can’t wait for you to be part of it with us. Stay tuned for a house warming invite, moving times mid October to mid November.

When you find fruit of exceptional quality, you can almost guarantee the people behind it are too. That’s certainly the case with no287vineyard .

We’ve been taking Chardonnay from Kate and Koldo’s small vineyard in Havelock North since 2024, and it’s some of the best we’ve come across. But even more impressive are the people growing it. Not just growers but friends of Radburnd, Kate and Koldo run exactly the kind of business we love to work with.

Their family dog Coco joins you sampling in the vineyard. Their kids are the appointed health and safety officers at each pick, sporting clipboards and hi-vis, patrolling on their bikes. And on picking days, you’re treated to homemade scones with jam and cream made by Kate’s Mum.

On the first day of harvest this year, Penelope’s son was sent home sick from daycare. Kate just said, “Leave it to me,” plonked him in the side-by-side beside her and kept him happy while we carried on picking up crates and stacking them on the truck.

Just another reason we love working with Kate and Koldo. A true family operation.

Our wines sit on a small handful of restaurant lists in Australia. Restaurant Botanic is one we’re especially proud to call home, tucked inside the Botanic Garden and built around native Australian produce.

It’s personal for us too. Kate and Penelope celebrated Kate’s parents’ 50th wedding anniversary here, being on the list means a little more because of it.

As many of you know, we’ve weathered our fair share of storms over the past few years. In the coming months, we’ll be packing up and moving again (hopefully into what will become our forever home).

Before we do, we’re sorting through a small number of bottles carrying the occasional cosmetic reminder of life in a working winery. Minor label scuffs, small tears and other signs of a life well lived.

The wine inside, however, remains exactly the same.

Rather than pack them up and move them again, we’ll be offering them exclusively to our mailing list over the coming days.

We’ve quietly given the Radburnd website a fresh look.

A little cleaner, a little more personal, and hopefully a far easier way to explore the wines, visit the Cellar Door, and stay connected with us moving forward. Taking it on through the middle of vintage was perhaps ambitious timing, but we’re so pleased to finally share it.

Alongside the new website, we’re also excited to introduce the next chapter of the Radburnd Wine Club, created for those who truly enjoy having Radburnd in their cellar.

We’re so proud to have worked alongside , who immediately understood the feel and direction we were hoping to create, and brought it to life so beautifully.
