We are a boutique vineyard just five minutes from the Village of Havelock North in Hawke's Bay Wine Country. Our focus is on premium Bordeaux styled red varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. All our wines are Estate Grown and the fruit is hand picked. With just over 25 acres many of our wines are available only through the cellar door and this website. Our elevated north facing site on the lower slopes of the Te Mata hills is not only an excellent location for grape growing it also provides us with stunning views, a warm sheltered micro-climate and a perfect situation for the visitor to spend an hour or two, a night or two or even a week or two. You can taste our wines, have lunch at the Bistro, a Summer Saturday morning at the Grower's Market and art gallery, an evening at a concert in the amphitheatre or all of the above by staying in one of our properties. Because we are not large, we are very keen on building a relationship with the person who consumes our wine. This is why we encourage people into Hawkes Bay and into our vineyard. While a virtual visit is OK, nothing can replace the experience of actually being here. We are open seven days and we welcome a call or a visit some time soon.

New Year at Summerlee has just opened up.

A last-minute cancellation has opened up something we rarely get to offer. Summerlee is now available over New Year, right in the middle of a Hawke’s Bay summer.

The whole place to yourselves, everyone together, long days around the pool, and plenty of time to enjoy being together.

And with the coast just minutes away, there's plenty to fill your days. A swim at Te Awanga, a round of golf at Cape Kidnappers, a bike ride through w**e country or a long lunch at Black Barn Bistro.

Available 27 December – 10 January | Minimum 5-night stay.

These dates don't come up often. If you've been thinking about getting family or friends together for New Year, this might be your chance.

Hori Shaw with Son & Water – Sounds of Summer Tour ☀️

Aotearoa roots-reggae stars Hori Shaw and Son & Water are joining forces and hitting the road this summer, with a stop at Black Barn Amphitheatre in January.

Fresh from taking the top two spots on the Aotearoa Top 20 singles chart, the two acts bring together some of the country's best homegrown reggae talent, including Katchafire co-founder Jamey Ferguson.

If Slackbarn isn’t on your summer radar yet, it probably should be.

For one day in January, Black Barn turns into a two-stage music festival.

The Amphitheatre fills, bands take the stage and the afternoon rolls into evening. Down in the Market, DJs are playing under the trees, stalls are open and people move back and forth between the two.

It’s a full summer day at Black Barn, with music happening in every direction.

Now in its third year, Slackbarn returns on Saturday 16 January with Home Brew, MESSIE, S*x Mask, Dust, Bari, Mim Jensen, Wet Denim, Lost & Found and more still to be announced.

There’s something about summer on the Tukituki.

The river below, Te Mata Peak across the valley and long Hawke’s Bay days stretching out ahead of you.

Riverside Lodge 1 sits right amongst it. Mornings with the doors open, a walk down to Red Bridge for a coffee, afternoons around the pool.

There’s a moment every spring when Fig Alley comes back to life.

The fig trees burst into leaf, the first tiny figs appear, and the shade begins to return overhead. For us, it’s one of those little signs that the season at Black Barn has begun.

From here, the whole place starts to hum. Fig Alley fills with people, the Bistro courtyard opens under the vines, and before long there’s music drifting down from the Amphitheatre.

Summer is when Black Barn really comes alive, and Fig Alley sits right at the heart of it.

Our Cellar Door is open seven days, 11am–4pm. Come up for a w**e tasting, meet friends for a drink, order a platter and settle in under the fig trees.

Dinner with the New Zealand String Quartet.

Sunday 8 November.

Join the New Zealand String Quartet for an evening of music, storytelling and dinner at Black Barn Bistro, as they finish their 2026 season.

Their ‘Legend’ programme features Beethoven, as well as scenes from the magical ballet Hansel and Gretel from Aotearoa’s own Claire Cowan. And to finish, Benjamin Britten’s luminous third and final string quartet on the fiftieth anniversary of the composer’s death.

The quartet will introduce each piece and share the stories behind the music. Whether it’s your first chamber music concert or your fortieth, you’ll feel at home.
