💪 We're absolutely stoked to share that Pyramid Valley has come in at #12 in The Real Review's Top 50 Wineries of New Zealand 2026 💪

This is the ninth year of Top Wineries and the full list highlights 143 of Aotearoa's finest wine estates and producers. The algorithm analyses two years worth of reviews and scores to whittle down the best of the bunch (no pun intended).

Check out the company we're in - Bell Hill, Felton Road Prophet's Rock, Quartz Reef Wines, Te Whare Ra (TWR) Wines, Destiny Bay, Neudorf Vineyards, Rippon Te Mata Estate Winery Dry River Wines ... and that's just the top dozen 👏 (...there's a case idea in that!).

Thank you to The Real Review NZ judges Stephen Wong MW and Jane Skilton MW, and to our incredible team in the vineyard and winery who make these results possible.

Sauvignon Blanc: It’s the variety that put New Zealand firmly on the world wine map, known for packing a punch in its aromatic intensity and flavours. But we like to do things a bit differently with Sauvignon here...

Our North Canterbury Sauvignon+ is from two vineyards on Glasnevin Gravels and Omihi clay soils, wild fermented with a touch of skins in concrete tulipes and old barrels. We love its full, mouth-filling texture with subtle notes of lemongrass and dried herbs, and a salivating acidity that is a hallmark of the region.

And that label? It’s a cyanotype print of the ‘Queen Anne’s lace’ - a plant found in our vineyards, set on a vivid green background that celebrates our natural approach to farming, alongside the ‘colour’ of the Pyramid Valley story.

It’s a downright delicious drop and a perfect way to end your Sauvignon Blanc Day!

Low Burn Estate at sunrise on Saturday ... an unusually peaceful morning with the team enjoying a weekend off in between picking Chardonnay last week and some Pinot Noir this week.

In 2017, we took on the original Lowburn Ferry vineyard in Central Otago, now named Low Burn Estate for the stream that runs through it. The wines of Lowburn Ferry, with their long, velvety tannins and dark, refined fruit hinted to something special.

And special it is. Especially at first light as the sun begins to peek over the ranges ❤️

It's been quite the month for reviews of our 2023 Botanicals Collection wines and we are beyond chuffed to share these from Halliday Wine Companion's Dave Brookes.

Dave has been championing North Canterbury wines from across the ditch for years, and - as a kiwi by birth (and at heart) - these reviews mean a heap! v2023 may have been small in volume, but it delivered mightily.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

2023 Earth Smoke Pinot Noir - 96 Points: "A beautiful, graceful and soulful expression of North Canterbury pinot noir."

2023 Angel Flower Pinot Noir - 96 Points: "The flow of fruit is pure and elegant, with superfine, chalky tannins, the finish linear and focused with a long draw of flavour and sleek, ripe fruit."

2023 Snake's Tongue Pinot Noir - 96 Points: "There's a long, pure stretch of fruit on the palate, fine, powdered-schist tannins and a fine mineral cadence as the wine travels."

2023 Lion's Tooth Chardonnay - 96 Points: "Clarity gains momentum on the palate, the wine coiling and gaining tension while retaining an expansive depth that's whisked along by a brisk limestone mineral cadence."

2023 Field of Fire Chardonnay - 95 Points: "There's a light phenolic twist of texture and a vivid sapidity and focused carry on the palate, with a citrus-peel expression right on the exit and a slow ache of umami. Chablis-esque, almost."

Harvest watch - Low Burn edition.

National Viticulturist Nick Paulin shares the seasonal goings-on at our Low Burn Estate...

🌻Central Otago has had a very 'spring-like' season – lots of wind and rain early, cool but no frost fighting thus far. We’ve enjoyed the odd warm day, however there hasn’t been much consistency to weather patterns … other than it being inconsistent!

🌻Flowering was close to long term averages (later than previous years), and January has been cooler than average so the team are working on making sure crop levels aren't too high and bunch exposure (leaf plucking) is dialed in for a cooler season.

🌻We’re expecting harvest to be well into April unless we get a very warm finish to summer.

What do the top ranked 2023 Chardonnay from New Zealand as rated by The Real Review have in common?

They were all awarded an exemplary 'best of breed' 96 POINTS ... including both our 2023 Field of Fire and Lion's Tooth Chardonnay, described as "tight and precise" (FoF) and "expressive and round" (LT) by Master of Wine Stephen Wong.

💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Thank you Stephen and The Real Review - we're absolutely chuffed to have these tiny production wines celebrated by you!
