Knapdale School recently brought 40 students to Cottesbrook for a hands-on learning experience about dairy farming. The students took part in quizzes about the different things you find on a dairy farm, as well as the various breeds of animals that are commonly raised there. They also went on a farm tour to learn about the technology used in dairy farming and why it is so important to feed cows well in order to produce the best milk. After that, the group watched an agriculture drone in action, which showed how technology is helping farmers work more efficiently. Bianca from Vet South also spoke to the students about Halter, explaining how it supports modern farming practices. It was a great day of learning and gave the students a better understanding of how dairy farms operate.
We have nearly completed our A2 community classroom. Just an outdore roof to go. We can now host a variety of groups through the classroom. This is a great asset on rainy days or when adults or senior students are looking at the data side of farming. The classroom has a wall display area to engage students visually, a smoko and lunch area, TV so points can be run or different programs eg halter can be displayed and explained. We are very grateful to A2 sustainability fund for granting us this so that we can bring our rural community together and inspire the next generation of agricultural leaders.

• 2nd June Year 11 Ag Students from BMC. Looking at environmental impact of dairy and the importance of genetics and look into how A2 protein works
• 3rd June Year 12 Ag Students from BMC. Looking at the positive impacts dairy farms can have on the environment
• Term 3: Waikaka School year 8’s looking at Technology use in farming.
• Term 3 BMC year 8’s looking at how milk gets from grass to glass.
