We’ve been really impressed with this interactive AI-powered feed management platform this season. 👇

It’s been a game changer for how we’ve managed feed this season, making planning simpler and helping us make better, data-driven decisions. If you're looking to make feed management easier, it's well worth checking out!

From everyone here at Merchiston, a huge thank you to all those who supported this year’s sale, whether you joined us on-farm or online.

Seeing that level of support for our cattle and our breeding programme is something we never take for granted. It’s incredibly humbling, and we’re genuinely grateful to everyone who bid, bought, helped out, or simply took the time to follow along.

While sale day is behind us, the work on the farm keeps rolling on (scanning ewes tomorrow!). We’re already excited about the young cattle coming through for next year. There are some outstanding calves in the paddock, and we can’t wait to see how they develop over the months ahead.

Thanks again for being part of the journey and for your continued support of Merchiston. We look forward to catching up with many of you again next year. 🐂🌱

📊 Data That Feels Right – Decisions That Deliver

EBVs are a powerful tool when selecting sires, but they should never be viewed in isolation. At Merchiston Angus, we believe genetics + good judgment = long-term success.

✅ EBVs must be matched with:

• Your breeding objectives
• The animal’s phenotype
• Your practical experience as a breeder

All our EBVs are genomically enhanced, giving you the highest level of accuracy and confidence in the data you're using.

🦵 Structure First – Performance Follows

At Merchiston Angus, structural soundness is non-negotiable.
Every animal must pass a strict structural assessment before being considered for breeding or sale.

We carefully evaluate:
🔍 Feet & legs
🔍 Body type & shape
🔍 Head & jaw

These physical foundations are essential for longevity, functionality, and the ability to reach full genetic potential. Because a bull that can’t go the distance won’t take your herd far either.

😌 Temperament – Is It Important?

Absolutely. It’s VITAL.

At Merchiston Angus, temperament has always been a core selection principle — and here’s why:

✅ Maternal Value: Calm cows raise better calves
✅ Safety: Quiet cattle are safer and easier to handle
✅ Meat Quality: Lower stress = better pH control at slaughter

From day one, we’ve selected for sound, even-tempered cattle to improve on-farm performance, safety, and product quality. And that’s not changing.

If temperament matters to you (and it should), come see the difference for yourself 👇
