🍲 STALLHOLDER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Prilly from Bakso Miko 🍲
If you caught a new delicious aroma drifting through the market last Sunday, chances are you found your way to Bakso Miko, one of our newest stallholders bringing the authentic flavours of Indonesian street food to Murihiku.
For Prilly, Bakso Miko began with a simple feeling: homesickness.
After moving to Invercargill from Indonesia nearly four years ago, the one food she missed most was bakso, Indonesia's much-loved beef meatball soup. Determined to recreate the flavours she remembered, Prilly spent the past few years researching, testing, refining, and perfecting her recipes until they were just right.
What started as a personal project soon grew into a small business. After supplying her handmade bakso to The Between Classes Café at SIT and receiving fantastic feedback, Prilly felt ready to share her food with the wider community at the Southern Farmers Market.
❤️ What's in a Name?
The name Bakso Miko is especially meaningful. While bakso means meatball in Indonesian, Miko is the nickname Prilly's children use for her, their own special version of "Mum". It beautifully reflects the family, culture, and love behind the food she creates.
🍢 What Should You Try?
* Complete Bakso - A comforting, authentic beef meatball soup and the closest thing to the traditional street food Prilly grew up with.
* Smoky BBQ Meatball Skewers - Created especially for Kiwi tastes while keeping the authentic Indonesian flavours she loves. They proved an instant hit, with 50 skewers sold on their very first market day.
Prilly and her family were overwhelmed by the support they received on their first Sunday at the market. "Everyone has been so welcoming, supportive, and willing to try something new. Seeing customers enjoy something that reminds me of home is incredibly special."
This Sunday, make sure you stop by, say hello, and give Prilly another warm Southern Farmers Market welcome. You might just discover your new favourite comfort food.
