⭐️ New Season Update ⭐️
As the new season approaches, I have started receiving number of awesome enquiries regarding fertile eggs, chicks, and pullets. To keep things simple and fair, my rule remains the same:
Short answer:
I do not take or maintain waiting lists.
Long answer:
1. Mother Nature is the boss here! Breeding poultry rarely goes by the book, and there are always unpredictable variables from fertility drops to snap weather changes, feed quality and so many more. I simply do not want to promise or make you wait for something I do not physically have in my hands yet.
2. Being in the Southland, our unpredictable weather means our breeding season sometimes begins a bit later than other areas of NZ. You will often see eggs, chicks and other chooks available elsewhere before mine are ready, and if you choose to buy from another breeder, that is absolutely ok. I often have plenty of amazing breeders I can recommend who I have met through our local poultry club and the poultry shows I have attended.
3. I manage TO+C on my own, outside of my work hours, children’s sports and family activities. While I often say ‘we’, that is because my family are involved in some way, shape or form and I feel they deserve recognition for their efforts.
4. Managing approx 10 breeding groups makes tracking individual message requests impossible, I do try my best, but it is usually the first person available and arrives when I can fit you in our busy family schedule gets the prize.
🐥 Chicks & Pullets 🐤
When I have a good supply of quality eggs, I do a few batches of eggs in the incubator. Once the eggs and chicks are hatching well and fertility is high, I will advertise what I have available.
All chicks are initially offered as unsexed day olds, and I don’t hold back chicks for the pullet market. What chicks are advertised as available, are what I am not keeping for myself as potential showing and/or breeding. I usually pick a colour or 2 to focus on for myself for the season.
Any unsold dayolds will be raised by me, meaning I cannot predict exactly what, when, or how many older pullets I will have available later. You will simply be able to pick from what I have listed as available.
As for advertising, I choose to pour my energy into caring for my flock, my own page and my page followers. If there isn’t much interest after 12-24 hours I usually post to the open market like Trade Me or Poultry pages and on the odd occasion someone may contact me with a very well timed message.
I am so incredibly grateful to be kept busy by repeat loyal followers who often return multiple times every season, and the new ones who find Tisbury Orpingtons + Co through word of mouth. Mr TO+C will often say I love my chooks more than anything else 😅.
As always, thank you for your continuous support and understanding. After our final Poultry Show in mid July I will post up my plan for the breeding season so you all are up to date.
P.S - if you have poultry related questions or needing advice, I am by no means an expert but I am always willing to help where I can and give advice from my own experiences 😊.
