Hello my name is Ian, with partner Rochelle, we own and manage Matanaka Meats. We are an East Otago company situated just south of Waikouaiti in Hawksbury Village next to Evansdale Cheese, which is approximately 40KM north of Dunedin

We are an award winning butchery with silver and bronze medals won in the Devro New Zealand’s Greatest Sausage Competition over the last 8 years, this year we won Silver for both our Streaky Black and our Maple Dry bacons in the New Zealand Pork Bacon and Ham Competition. We are offering the finest selection of handmade products for you the consumer, made to the highest standard, we take pride in our work ensuring you get the best, we source the best meat money can buy for our processing and all our pork products are made from PigCare accredited pork only, and are all raised on New Zealand farms.

Happy Friday everyone!
Today we have some porterhouse as ribeye is sadly not in stock until Monday now. Porterhouse is an amazing steak to cook and the flavour is excellent.

We also have:
• Mince $24/kg (pure nz ground beef)
• Saveloys $25/kg Made in the traditional way on site
• gluten free beef sausages $25/kg We can’t tell the difference in taste between these and the non gluten free ones!

There is also RTCP chipolatas, a pack of pre-cooked sausages for the BBQ, pre-sliced Wild Smokehouse Salami, cut salami sticks, Wild Smokehouse venison bier sticks, honey dew bacon and more!

Since we bought Matanaka Meats from Rochelle there have been some interesting questions and I wanted to answer some of them over time, here.
The first one is something that never occurred to me!

Q. Are you going to expand your range, don’t you just sell homekill meat?
A. Ummm no! We do not ever sell homekill meat as this is not something you can do without owning the animals and having the meat slaughtered and certified in the correct facility.
We buy in certified meat from suppliers at this point and that is the only meat that is sold to the public ☺️

As a dual operator we work under an RMP plan and work with MPI to make sure all processes are correct.
We are able to process your homekill or game animals as long as they do not have skins/heads/hooves.
We’re happy to work with you on what type of cuts and smallgoods you want.

Our wild venison is from a certified supplier and it features in this weeks salamis! Wed-Fri we are open until 4pm!

This week we have our Wild Venison smoked bier sticks available. They are smoked with local Manuka chips & are ready to eat! Gluten free in case you need that as well.
Certified wild venison, nz beef and made right here in Hawksbury.

Also gluten free, venison based and ready to eat is our sliced and whole pieces of salami. Either Smoked Manaka or Garlic chilli.
Open until 2 today, 2:30 Tuesday and 4pm the rest of the week☺️
