One quarter beast left on the Burgess Peaks harvest, and then it is full.

Harvest is Monday 26th October. Pick up at Cambridge Homekills in Cambridge. Orders close Monday 26th October.

Burgess Peaks is Emma and Jason's place at Te Mata, near Raglan. 330 hectares of West Coast hill country, and a herd they have spent seven years breeding: Angus, Piedmontese, and their own Pied Angus cross. Every calf is tagged and recorded against its mother at birth, so they can follow each animal from the day it is born. Young cattle are shifted to fresh grass every day.

A quarter comes back as around 42 to 52kg of cuts. Steaks, roasts, slow cook cuts and mince, split evenly with the other quarter off the same half, so nobody gets all the front or all the back.

Ever wondered what half a cow actually looks like? This isn’t even all of it.

This is it. Half a 2-year-old Angus steer, cut to the customer’s own cut sheet by Lisa at Everybody’s Butchery. And that’s not all of it: 18kg of sausages isn’t in the shot because it couldn’t fit on the table.

How the pricing works:
• Carcass weight: 138.5kg
• Beef: $16/kg × 138.5kg = $2,216
• Butchery: $2–3/kg = $277–$416
• Total: roughly $2,490–$2,630

Scotch, Rump steak, eye fillet, beef bones, shin, mince, roasts, brisket, sausages and more go straight from the farm to your freezer. There’s no middleman, and you know exactly where it came from with the benefit of supporting local farmers.

One quarter left on the Tamar Farm harvest, Tuesday 20th October.

Red Devon beef from Richard and Chrissie Wright at Mt Somers, Mid Canterbury. Grass fed and pasture raised, on a closed farm where every calf is born and reared on the property.
Pickup is from Netherby Meats in Ashburton. Orders close Monday 19th October.
