Early signs are looking positive for Corson Maize hybrid PAC 430 at Tony Steiner's Matamata property, where PGW Grain Procurement and Logistics Manager Russel Hayes recently visited to assess crop emergence.

Maize planting is well underway in the Waikato , BOP regions, with a kind early Spring taking shape. Ground conditions have been particularly good with warm soil temperatures allowing for a large area to be planted earlier than last season.

Warm rain over this previous weekend will push theses plants along well to a good start for the season

Collaboration Driving Innovation at Mt Stewart

We're excited to showcase the collaboration between PGG Wrightson Seeds and PGG Wrightson Grain at our Mt Stewart Regional Research Site.
This site has been established to demonstrate the value of our latest forage and grain cultivars in real-world farming situations, providing practical insights that farmers can relate to and apply on-farm.

Over winter the site had been planted in Abuzz annual ryegrass; we've now sprayed that out in preparation for planting this spring's planned forage and cereal seed demonstration plots.

By bringing together research, innovation, and commercial farming practices, the Mt Stewart site will serve as a hub for evaluating cultivar performance, exploring crop management strategies, and highlighting solutions that help farmers maximise productivity and profitability.

We're looking forward to welcoming customers, industry partners, and the wider agricultural community to see firsthand how our genetics perform under local growing conditions and to share the latest research outcomes.

Great day of learning and collaboration! 🌾

PGG Wrightson Grain was pleased to host the Manawatu PGG Wrightson Rural Supplies team for a behind-the-scenes visit to the Mt Stewart Added Value site on 15 September, where the Gusto range of products is manufactured.

The tour provided a great opportunity to see the grain storage, processing and feed manufacturing operations firsthand while sharing knowledge across teams and strengthening the connection between our businesses.

A busy day in the field near Methven last week, with 320 spring barley trial plots planted. These trials will be monitored throughout the season before being harvested, yielded and put through grain quality testing.
Bonus points if you can identify the bird photobombing the camera around 30 seconds in.

Plenty happening at Kimihia last week as the bulk of our spring cereals were planted. Alongside two spring wheat yield trials and three wheat multiplication blocks, we also drilled a 300-plot Belter agronomy trial that will help build our understanding of this exciting cultivar.
