Bottling prep is underway… but what’s going in the bottle?

We’ll give you a clue: it’s a bit of a sticky situation, but this one’s liquid gold.

Any guesses?

As a business owner, I like to come back to my “why” every now and then. Why did I start making gin, and what keeps the passion alive?

For me, it started with a beautiful bridge between science and craft. Gin-making is a chance to bring those two worlds together, with plants and botanicals at the heart of it all.

What keeps me here? The opportunity to work with plants in a fun, creative and endlessly curious way. Botanicals don’t always behave as you’d expect, and that’s part of the magic. There’s always something to explore, something to learn, and another idea to follow.

And growing botanicals gives me all the more reason to get out in the garden 😉

Just in case you missed the headlines, the pīwakawaka didn’t claim the 2026 Bird of the Year title. However it did place eighth, which is a sound effort given there were over 70 birds on the comp!

A massive thank you again to those who voted pīwakawaka and backed our campaign!

SPIRIT FILE #03 — Built for busy gardens

You don't need a huge native forest to spot a pīwakawaka.

They're found in gardens, orchards, shelterbelts, parks, scrub, as well as native bush.

So that little visitor in your backyard?

Very likely a campaign supporter.

That’s spirit.

SPIRIT FILE #02 — The tail tells a story

Ever wondered why the pīwakawaka has that spectacular fan-shaped tail?

It’s not just for looking fabulous.

Their broad tails help them change direction quickly while hunting insects.

Built-in aerodynamics.

That’s spirit.
