Alabaster and Coogan weaner fair coming up this Wednesday the 13th of May.

Genuine Taihape hill country weaners that are guaranteed to grow out big with the grunty genetics behind them.

Sires of the Alabaster calves include these bulls that all have unreal volume and weight making dimensions.

Top opportunity!!

We had the absolute thrill of viewing a family favorite and current Ai sire who now resides at Glengyle Angus earlier in the week. KayJay FatBoy T641 who was used as a yearling here at KJ then sold at lot 1 in our 2024 sale.
After seeing the way his progeny have all shaped up early, displaying FatBoys shape and weight making dimensions in a moderate frame is exciting to say the least. Thick, deep and strong.

FatBoy would have to be in a league of his own when it comes to hill country bulls and we’re pumped to be using him again by Ai this season.

Not a bad pedigree behind him either, there hasnt been many cows that can/have backed up like M37 does with her next calf being Minister of KayJay U708.

With NZ potentially seeing the dawn of a new day when it comes to both Beef and Lamb values it certainly gets you thinking on where, what and how to best maximize the profits. Remembering it costs the same to produce each blade of grass whether you are feeding it to low production stock or high.

In a sheep and beef breeding system we generally see the su/ha exhausted through seasonal extremes and farm limitations that have been realized through years of trying to best minimize the feed pinch’s while maximizing production through surpluses.
The goal therefore has to be efficiency, producing/selling more kgs/su and kgs/ha without taking a step back by running more su/ha.

Can we have both maternal performance and high production within a herd? We think you can…

V802
Weaned off the hills and back onto the hills until June then unfortunately he and his mates have had to work through what has been a bloody tight winter with every bit of feed spoken for.

Scanned on the 21/8 at 12 months of age in a moderate frame.
Weight: 510kg
Rump: 7
Rib: 4
IMF: 4.5
EMA: 79
Scrotal: 44cm

Maternal strength: Angel family, 78 natural calves to date from 8 generations of females behind V802 with both dam and grand dam still active in the herd with calves at foot. No dam has had less than 9 calves, all calving as heifers and no misses. An average weaning weight of all progeny near 300kg.

Value at every critical stage. Let the genetics do the work.

Such a positive story and an awesome reminder of why we do what we do. Bayden and Shaye are huge assets to their community and great role models for young people wanting to follow a career in the farming industry.

Well done team and great watch Bayden for someone who hates speaking 😉
