Art is an important part of the story at Matakana Estate Lodge.

Inspired by the work of award-winning New Zealand artist Sofia Minson, we have incorporated her beautiful The Heart of the Kākā design into the Lodge. Sofia’s art draws inspiration from the land, native wildlife, ancestral stories and diverse cultures of Aotearoa.

Known for its intelligence, curiosity and spirited nature, the kākā represents freedom, resilience and a deep connection with the natural world. Surrounded by vineyards and the peaceful Matakana landscape, this meaningful artwork brings warmth, character and a distinctly New Zealand spirit into the Lodge.

It is more than a beautiful piece—it is part of the story and feeling we hope to share with every guest. 🌿

Some pieces of a home carry more than history—they carry the warmth of the people who came before.

This beautiful AGA once belonged to Matakana Estate’s former Croatian owner. For many years, it stood at the heart of the kitchen, warming the home and helping prepare meals for family, friends and guests gathered around the table.

When Chrissy took over the estate, the AGA was passed on to her along with the property. She chose to keep it as a treasured connection to the estate’s Croatian heritage and the generations who helped shape this special place.

Today, it remains in the kitchen as Chrissy continues the estate’s story—honouring its past while bringing her own vision into its next chapter.

The owner may have changed, but the warmth at the heart of the home remains.
