NextGen is a supported transition for 16-20 years olds to a career in dairy farming. This program has been designed to improve attraction and retention of quality staff. Empowered dairy farmers have contributed heavily to the program content and outcomes.

Host farmers employ a student for a 12-month work based training between Jan- Dec delivered by Dairy Training

A host farmer's role is to mentor a student and help them translate class day learning into everyday farming practice.

Host farmers and students are fully supported with pastoral care by our learning advisor.

Becoming a Host Farmer for our NextGen student Chris this season has been one of the most rewarding experiences we have had dairy farming.

We highly recommend getting involved with the NextGen programme.

Host farmer and student applications for 2027 are now open. Support the future generation of dairy farmers.

The NextGen Dairy Farmers Programme is designed for 16-20 year olds and provides a supported transition from school into dairy farming.

On farm mentoring – we have a passion for dairy farming with 20 years farming and business
experience to share. Across NZ and Australia, we have a proven record of performance on many
different farming systems.
A $2000 per year training allowance.

This role will be paid pro-rata for the fixed term of a full time Herd Managers position.
