The countdown is on.

In just over a week, some of New Zealand’s best breweries will descend on Queenstown for the 2026 Smiths NZIPA.

What started as a simple celebration of New Zealand-grown hops has grown into one of the country’s most unique beer events, bringing brewers together to share ideas, celebrate successes, and raise a glass to the people behind the industry.

Over four days we’ll welcome breweries from across the country for exclusive beer launches, the Brewers Dinner, Hockey Night, the Konvoy Kegs Brewers Cup Disc Golf Tournament, and the NZIPA Awards.

Better yet, every year the Smiths NZIPA helps support the Scott Richardson Memorial Trust and its work developing the next generation of young chefs and hospitality professionals.

Someone has their 80th birthday beer sorted...

What started as one Argentinian football fan's fun idea to introduce the world to the least-known player going to the World Cup turned into a full-blown international movement. Enter El Scarso, an Argentine content creator and now unofficial president of the Fan Club. One follower became ten. Ten became millions. Before long, Payne's socials were lighting up faster than a striker through on goal.

And honestly? We bloody love it.

A football-mad Argentinian championing a not-so-well-known New Zealand defender on the other side of the world is exactly the kind of weird, wonderful sporting story that deserves a beer. We've brewed this juicy Hazy IPA packed with tropical fruit, stone fruit, and enough haze to make it hard to see where all these new followers came from.

Here's to Tim Payne, New Zealand's most unexpectedly international football hero, and to El Scarso for proving that football fandom has absolutely no borders.

Lo que empezó como una idea divertida de un hincha argentino para presentarle al mundo al jugador menos conocido que iba al Mundial, terminó convirtiéndose en un verdadero fenómeno internacional. Y ahí apareció El Scarso: creador de contenido argentino y, desde entonces, presidente no oficial del Club de Fans de Tim Payne. Un seguidor se convirtió en diez. Diez se convirtieron en miles. Miles se convirtieron en millones. Y antes de que nos diéramos cuenta, las redes de Payne explotaban más rápido que un delantero encarando solo al arquero.

Y la verdad... nos encanta.

Porque un argentino fanático del fútbol impulsando a un defensor neozelandés poco conocido al otro lado del mundo es exactamente el tipo de historia rara, maravillosa y hermosa que merece una cerveza. Por eso elaboramos esta jugosa Hazy IPA, cargada de sabores a frutas tropicales, frutas de carozo y con suficiente turbidez como para no poder ver de dónde salieron todos estos nuevos seguidores.
