💚Handfeeding the puppies💚

They are now 6 weeks old

The puppies are entirely raw meat fed. And handfed in the morning now.
There is no better way to teach concentration and focus from an early age onwards.
Two of them already stare into my eyes - instead of at the food.
Eye contact the most important part in dog/dog or dog/human communication.

AND... "you dont bite the hand that feeds you" also comes into play.

If this is kept up past leaving here... you wont have a problem with a pup being unruly or biting hands.

The nipping is another topic that will be looked at in a coming video here on the Callanish Heeler page. None of these pups bite or nip me. And they will never do so.

➡️Nosework

A carrot chopped into small cubes and a pile of cut bamboo ... perfect way to keep a bunch of Heeler entertained for quite a while.

Nosework engages the brain and is great entertainment.
It triggers the hunting instinct without teaching the dog to chase.

A single dog can follow a trail of "carrots" (or whatever you see as bait) for a very long time and extreme concentration.

It can be advanced by dragging a carrot along the ground and only leave tiny pieces every 5m.

Try it!

Anyone doing scentwork with his/her Heeler/dog?

😍First individual photos of the 6 puppies.
They are starting to show their personalities... So lovely to get to know them.

Laurel, Hardy and the Beltane lot.

All are trueblues, 4 of them have the very stunning Seal coloring

➡️Mr. Laurel is the brainy one. Quite a calm and person focussed chap. He is Seal colored
➡️Mr. Hardy is a staunch and selfassured pup. Fazed of nothing. Super charming and already communicates via Eye. He is Seal Colored
➡️Miss Kia is smart as and knows how the world runs. Amazing little Lady. Also Seal colored.
➡️Mr. Miro is a straightforward happy chappy. Big personality. He is a Seal
➡️Mr. Tao is a rather quiet pup. Calm and thoughtful. Lovely natured boy. Dark trueblue colored
➡️Little Miss Jennalie is the smallest of the lot. A bit runty. But cheeky and has a lot of humor. Dark Trueblue

This my first impression of the six puppies.

All of them can be viewed from the coming weekend onwards - when they are about 6 weeks old.

It looks like two of boys may still be looking for gumboots to attach themselves to. Or working boots... or sneaker...

Inquiries please via pm

☕️Early morning (after my coffee) routine at Callanish Heeler.
( ! long video ! )

The mother was let out of the pup house early.
She has been running around with the other dogs.

Meat gets prepared (here you see a veal brisket, minced meat (mutton/beef/chicken) and a beef brisket bone.

The walk to the pup house was cut short... a lot of hopping and excited dogs walking with me.

A whistle announces "human with food imminent" - and removes the scare factor of a door suddenly opening/unexpected noise.

The rest is pretty straightforward.

Present food and check water and the area.
After that... I leave and let them eat in peace.
Door will be closed.
The amount presented is the ad lib level. They will be very full. But still can chew on the two brisket bones.
They will go toilet in the far off area... then be active for a short while... And go to sleep.
Midday is cleaning time. With mom inside as well (for distraction)...
The rags will get changed, the whole area cleaned and checked, waterbowl changed...
Mom stays with them for the afternoon, finishes off the briskets, chews on the cannon bone ... engages with her pups.
A second feeding at night ... and another day gone.

I spend a lot of time with them at changing intervals.
They are also left to their own devices often. And the door is often close to give them periods of peace and snooze time.

Modern technology helps a lot in watching what they are doing during the day - without being present.
Sleep time is important. And they do sleep A LOT.

I hope you enjoy the little videos of our daily routine here? If you have questions... please put them into comments🙂

Here is the Callanish Heeler Pup House

Nestled in a remote area of the garden, particularly designed for the puppies.
This pup house is bright and naturally ventilated, fully insulated and has all that is important for growing pups.
The mother has two shelves she can rest on - out of reach of the pups, yet can keep a keen eye on them.
The entrance is safe and blocks the view to the outside, yet lets the pups have a sneak peak once a bit older.

It has an easy to clean and non slip floor and all sorts of entertainment bits and pieces.

The little house has its own water supply and the solar system makes it independent and bt smart gadgets keep it safe.

A real "bespoke" little house.

With real and overly cute little puppies in there at the moment😉😍😍

People who have been here and picked or picked up their pup will remember it well🙂
