We are situated 15 mins north of Napier on the Thermal Explorer Highway, the main road to and from Taupo. Our Story

Linden Estate was established in 1971 by Wim Van Der Linden, an immigrant from Holland, and his wife Maria. Wim, a civil engineer by profession, was always very enthusiastic about winemaking and grape growing. The first grapes on the site were planted with the assistance of Sir Tom

McDonald and McWilliams Wines, who helped plant approximately 12 hectares of Palomino and Riesling. Wim and Maria began making wine in 1979 and slowly started building their reputation, as well as the Linden Estate brand. The current winery facility was built in 1991, and the vineyard underwent a carefully planned planting program using classic grape varieties including Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Chardonnay proved to be their first medal winner, and was selected for first and business class services on Air New Zealand flights. Much of the wine was exported to the UK, the US, Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada and Taiwan. In 2001, Linden Estate was sold to a Canadian couple who were unable to maintain the reputation the Van Der Lindens had built. The present owners took over in 2006, with a goal of re-establishing the brand as a producer of quality wines. With a completely new and passionate team, our aim is to make premium boutique wine. Our hard work and attention to detail is key to growing exceptional fruit and, as a result, our wine achieves depth, richness and complexity with intense fruit flavours. Linden Estate enjoys the warm climate of Hawkes Bay, New Zealand's most versatile winegrowing region. We are situated 15 minutes north of Napier, in the Eskdale sub region. Linden Estate is the first winery as you arrive into Hawkes Bay from Taupo, and the ideal place to begin any wine tasting experience. Our cellar door is elevated above the surrounding vines, providing a wonderful vista across the valley floor to the wooded hills in the background. For the visitor, Linden Estate Winery offers unique wines, beautiful views and approachable staff. Pruning is underway in our front block of Pinotage and Syrah. Winter is a quieter time in the vineyard, with the vines now dormant after harvest. While growth has paused, there's still plenty of work happening among the rows.
