From a farming standpoint we believe in demonstrating best practice in everything we do to sustain the land and are all about breeding more profitable cattle to live from it. Mount Taranaki an awesome backdrop on a great day for these young Profit Maker calves. Thanks to Shane and Brian at Parininihi ki Waitotara (PKW) for giving me a look at their cattle and facilities of this large inter generational Maori business. These calves are contracted to a finisher in Hawkes Bay as part of the Better Beef Collective.

Great catch up with Pete Bocock. Have enjoyed a long association with the Bocock family. Their team is doing 1,000 Profit Maker calves ex Pouarua Farms and Southern Pastures destined for finishers in the Waikato and Hawkes Bay. The animals are doing the talking going head to head with 3000 other calves all treated the same of otter breeds. Will summarise when all the numbers in and calves delivered but safe to say these calves delivering more from less!

For us, that number represents more than sales.

Angus cows have come off the hill and heading to their calving block. August/September are the busiest months on farm with all the activity around yearling bulls and over 30 calves a day through peak calving to tag, weigh and DNA while scoring their mother’s udders.
