Watermelons...
How do you know when they are ripe?
It seems pickers look for a pale or buttery yellow spot on the bottom side of the melon which indicates ripeness.
Also, tapping on the ripe fruit produces a dull, hollow sound as opposed to a high-pitched ring (curtesy of Tui Garden Products).
I just got mine from a veggie shop and then left it for ages whilst I got round to adding it into some lovely, fresh, organic green tea Kombucha, adding even more vitamins A and C, magnesium and...... lycopene into the brew.
Lycopene plant pigment is responsible for the beautiful pinks and reds that occur in many of our fruits and veg (like red carrots).
It is widely recognised as a protector for cell walls and can play a role in supporting heart and prostate health.
But really all we need to know is how good it tastes when we ferment it π
It settles out a bit, but give it a pop and the bubbles rise to mix it to a lovely blush π
It will be on the table at the Farmers Market tomorrow morning for you to come down and try.
