On site in Tonga scoping new projects

01/10/2026

Sometimes you have to make do! Calibration, Tongan style! 🇹🇴 Making do in the hotel room.

When you're far from the workshop and need to calibrate the pH meter, you work with what you've got, in this case, the hotel drinking glasses!

I've got the 4.00, 7.00, and 10.01 buffer powders lined up on the sink and mixed into the glassware. The meter is dialed in perfectly and reading 7.00.

It's not a sterile lab, but a stirring spoon and a bathroom sink get the job done. Ready to head out and get to work on the local water systems! 💧🔧

Off the tools but still on the clock. Stuck in a Hamilton hotel room tonight smashing through this MPNZ marking between classes.

Ain't nothing glamorous about it. Just pushing paper and making sure the next lot actually know how to design a proper farm water system instead of botching the job.

Just me, a laptop, and a pile of assessments that need sorting.

If you want to see what this course actually demands and how to get these systems built right, the specs are here:

From pea soup to crystal clear! 🌿🐟

This repurposed ~950L spa pond had seen better days-heavy algae bloom, thick sludge, and zero visibility. You could hardly tell there were goldfish in there.

Decided to overhaul the filtration properly:

Pump: Pond One MantaRay 4000 (handling all the solids and muck straight up from the footwell)

Filter: OASE FiltoClear 6000 pressure filter with built-in UVC

Plumbing: 38mm flexible hose set up for a smooth horizontal surface return (plenty of oxygen without turning it into a washing machine for the plants)

A bit of mechanical clearing, letting the UV break down the bloom, and a few quick backwashes with the FiltoClear’s squeeze handle later, and the water is clear right down to the bottom contours. The fish are finally visible and loving the clean water!

Still got some tidy-up work to do around the borders and hose routing, landscaping and pond planting but for an afternoons work and 3 days running on the filter its looking mint!

When there’s a new baby on the way, safe drinking water is the last thing you want to be stressing about.

We started this job by running a on-site photometer test to see exactly what we were dealing with. The results showed elevated nitrates, a real concern for pregnant mums and bottle-fed infants.

Rather than guessing, testing on-site meant we could engineer a dedicated multi-stage underbench setup tailored specifically to their water profile:

20-Micron Washable Sediment: Catches the coarse grit, rust, and silt to keep the fine cartridges from clogging up early.

1-Micron Sediment: Pulls out fine suspended solids and clarifies the water for the UV stage.

Specialised Nitrate Filter: Dedicated resin cartridge designed specifically to strip out dissolved nitrates.

0.5-Micron Carbon Block: Tackles chlorine, off-tastes, odours, and acts as a physical barrier against cysts like Giardia and Cryptosporidium.

Underbench UV Steriliser: The final safeguard-zaps 99.9% of bacteria and pathogens without adding any chemicals.

Tucked away neatly under the sink without losing usable cupboard space, giving the family clean drinking water right from the tap.

If you're on river, stream, well or bore water and want to know what’s actually in your supply, flick us a message. We can test it on-site and build the right solution for your home.

Great project to be involved in

Out with the old, in with the gold 🛠️🐄
Stripping this shed right back to the bones and rebuilding from the ground up with top-shelf GEA gear.
Days like this take a bit of everything-light engineering, custom fabrication, precision wiring, plumbing, and every trick in-between. Full transformation complete and milk to the vat! 💪

🛠️ Bringing Work Home... Literally!

Who says the workday ends when you leave the site? When a client needs their water sorted, the prep work happens whenever and wherever there's space.

Getting stuck into a full service on a Pentair Autotrol head and prepping a iron and manganese removal system to get this client’s water back to crystal clear.

From prepping the solenoid valves, fittings, on the workbench. (Aka the spa)

Diving deep into the Pentair Autotrol valve body internals with a fresh flapper replacement kit and seals all round after a chemical soak to ensure the head is clean.

Fully packed crate with the specialty Quantum DMI-65 iron filtration media, underbed gravel, ready to reinstall.

Nothing beats the satisfaction of rebuilding these systems to run like new. Clear, iron-free water is on the way!

We don't muck around here at Viking Water Solutions, we do the job and we do it right!

Great night at the Network of Trades with Taranaki Chamber of Commerce. Managed to score ourselves an awesome hamper from Baked By Blanche.

Good to hear about the upcoming infrastructure projects from South Taranaki District Council and seeing the positive direction the region is heading in.
