The distance between our soil and your plate is smaller than you think. What if your microgreens were harvested this morning… and on the shelf by this afternoon? 🌱

That’s the way we think food should be. We grow radish microgreens because we love producing food that is fresh, vibrant and full of life.

We harvest them right here by hand using our greens harvester to make the job faster and more efficient.

They can go from farm → harvest → pack → local store all in the same day.

No long journey.
No sitting around for days.
Just freshly harvested food, grown right here in Taranaki.

Because we believe local food isn’t just about where it’s grown. It’s also about how quickly you can get it from the ground to the people who are going to eat it.

🌱 Harvested today.
🛒 On local shelves today.

That’s why we grow.

Awesome to finally meet Matt and the team Neighbourhood Farm in person after watching what they have been doing for a long time.

One of the biggest takeaways for me was seeing how much his farm has changed. Rather than spending his days delivering, he now has a chef come onto the farm to harvest, and his customers come to him to collect their produce. Seeing how he’s structured his production, harvesting and farm management around being able to stay on the farm was really valuable.

We covered a LOT of content over the two days, but I particularly loved getting into the practical side of lowering and leaning tomatoes using the Qlipr system. I’m really excited to bring some of those strategies back into our own production and see how they work for us.

There’s something pretty special about sharing knowledge between growers — our style meeting Matt’s style, comparing systems, questioning things and taking the bits that make sense for your own farm.

Two awesome days with an awesome crew. Thanks everyone for making it such a great couple of days.

Looking forward to seeing you all again — and as always, there’s an open invite to come and visit us at Roebuck Farm. 🌱

Keeping it close to home. 🌱

Jodi eating the salad he’s just harvested pretty much sums up why we do what we do.

We get requests to send our produce further afield, but for us, local matters.

We grow for our community here in Taranaki — supplying local shops, restaurants and food businesses in and around New Plymouth. We believe there is real strength in a local food ecosystem: food grown in our own region, in season, harvested fresh and eaten close to where it’s grown.

It’s good for the soil. Good for the grower. Good for local businesses. And good for our health.

But it’s also about connection — knowing who grows your food, where it comes from and what’s in season.

So we choose to put our energy into making genuinely good, field-grown food accessible and convenient for our local community.

Grow local. Eat local. Keep the food system close. 🌱

YOU CAN’T FARM IN A BUBBLE. We’ve learnt that some of the most useful time we spend on the farm is actually time spent away from it.

Walking someone else’s beds. Looking at how they’ve solved a problem. Talking about what worked, what didn’t, and what we’d do differently next time.

Because after decades of growing, one thing becomes pretty clear: The crop might change. The system might change. The scale might change. But the principles travel.

A good workflow is a good workflow.
A way of saving labour is worth sharing.

A smarter use of a tool, a better way of organising harvest, building fertility, managing people or planning production — these ideas don’t belong to one farm.

We’ve spent decades travelling to farms + figuring things out on our own farm.

So when we get the chance to sit around a table with other producers, we’re not just sharing what we know.

We’re comparing notes.

Because the best ideas often come from somewhere completely unexpected.

A flower grower teaches a market gardener something.

A chef changes the way a farmer thinks about harvest.

A small farm solves a problem that a much bigger operation has been wrestling with.

That exchange is valuable. Really valuable.

For us, stepping away from production isn’t lost time.

It’s part of the work.

Because farming gets better when we stop trying to do it alone.

And perhaps the most useful thing we can grow is a community of people willing to share what they’ve learnt.

Absolutely massive two days this week with Roebuck Farm Market Garden and an epic crew of farmers for an intensive market gardening workshop! What a privilege to host Jodi here from NZ to share some streamlined specifics with us all, and what a pleasure to have a chance to meet, catch up and dine with with so many epic growers from here and interstate!

We'll be posting more about what we've learned in our next farm newsletter but in the meantime enjoy a brief snapshot of the times shared. It's events like these that really inspire and motivate us to keep chipping away at our goals for the farm - we'd love to host more workshops like these in the future so if you have any ideas or reccos drop us a line 🫡

Right now, one of our favourite winter harvests is the baby Tokyo turnip. Sweet, crisp and tender, they’re nothing like the large turnips many of us grew up with.

Steam them lightly or roast them until the edges caramelise, then finish with a simple miso glaze aka Matt + Leni 🌱

Eating with the seasons is about flavour. Winter-grown root vegetables are packed with nutrients and when they’re grown locally, you know they will be 💯fresher, travelling way fewer kilometres, and are support the soil systems in your neighbourhood.

Baby Tokyo turnips are one of those fleeting crops we look forward to every winter. They’re here for a short time, then they’re gone until next season.

Savour what’s available now, eat your turnips
