Calf Club Calves.
Trouw Nutrition is an excellent sponsor of Jersey NZ . Our calf club calves will be on display at the World Jersey Tour at our place February 13.
The calf club calves are being transitioned to Sprayfo Blue - a whey based powder.
It will be interesting to see how they go. The theory is that the whey based product means the calves don't stay as full, and will eat more meal. We have a 20% protein meal along with hay and a fresh break of grass available.

A selection of cows that will be at Carrfields Matamata Saleyards, Monday 7 September.
Some of the Friesian content of our herd. These cows will fit into any system - good strong NZ bred Friesians.
80 percent of diet is home grown feed.
Johnes tested - not positive Feb 2026.

When attention to detail pays dividends.

Conscientious dairy farmers know that checking the cows just before heading to bed means a more restful sleep - knowing that things are OK - and attending to things that aren't right.
Sometimes though a major save is made. This was the case last night for Eli. Firstly - it's very uncommon for first calvers to have twins. Eli assisted our highest BW animal to calve heifer twins. The twins are the result of sexed Danish semen, part of a LIC-Danish partnership to help improve genetic diversity of Jersey cattle.
Two live heifer calves, and a live cow. Thanks Eli - it might have been a very different story if you hadn't checked.
This morning the calves were straight to the calf shed, covers on and getting some special attention.
We are getting a few twins. Again, attention to detail is paying off -as heifer-bull combinations are being identified. Unfortunately, in the case of heifer-bull twins, the heifers end up infertile.
