Spring is starting to show here.
The fruit trees have their first blossoms popping out (peach and plums) and due to almost two weeks of frost we also have blossoms for the first time on the apricot tree.

K1 has been busy starting to prep for seed starting.
It is the first year she has been organized enough to do it …… so as expected she is quite buzzed about it.
She is hoping next year to have somewhere dedicated to do it. The generator shed isn’t perfect but it will do for this year.

Also……..keep your eyes posted to see what we are going to do with the container wall in the garage.

Let the experiment begin.

Early observations would suggest this may work as the main culprit for naval sucking was hard at work when I first locked them in the shed to make getting Stockholm’s tar onto the navals easier.
K1 noted that she had stuck her head under a few bellies and that is as far as it had gone.

Stay tuned for further observations and a decision regarding if this may stop the naval sucking

Spent today moving stock.
We were really sad to see Neo the bull we had leased go back home. He grew on us really quickly with his calm and easy going temperament.

We also went and got Lace our repLACEment heifer to take a friends for her first coed camp.

It was all made so easy with the hire of the dedicated cattle trailer from Country Critters trailer hire.

Considering he is still very young Luka is doing amazingly well (in our opinion) of starting to work cattle at 9months old.

Here he is helping K1 take the cattle back after milking.

He is really starting to get the hang of slowly and quietly moving cattle on from the back and also learning when barking and actively pushing is appropriate.

There have been a couple of things that have surprised me about the new calf shed.
1) just how much they like being in there when they have the autonomy to come in and out
2) just how dry it is in there with a REALLY thick pad of drainage metal beneath the pine sawdust despite having 17 calves in there for a large chunk of time daily

Can’t really beat these kinds of afternoons.

Pretty stoked with the new trailer parking area which utilises a previously weird little corner that had no real use
