Almost thru October and the cows are still being break fed.. Grass is usually growing faster than we can eat it by Sept 20. Trying to build some grass ahead and we still have got that cold wind which doesnt help. 🤷‍♀️ Water table is still high. 👍 Cows are doing superbly well and the calves are enjoying life regardless. This is the first and some second calvers - all terrific young dams enjoying their new role! Love seeing a sea of calves in the new break - happy chappies! ❤️💯

We had the opportunity to try some of Southland Carbon Biochar recently. Interesting stuff!! The yearling heifers were first to be offered some... see their reaction! An hour later, sitting down, chewing cud and with a black moustache! This is something we will look into further, it is quite a unique product and was well received by the cattle. ❤️😎🤔

Interesting spring weather here in Northland.. cold as ever been before, grass is coming but boy, it is slow! So, everyone is still behind a break fence and Colleen is staying fit! 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️ Yearling heifers have got the best paddock available and they are making the most of it! 🥰

When you buy a cow way back in 2018 and inadvertedly buy her best friend too..🫶🥰
At 12 years of age, they are as strong as ever and always hanging together. 💪😍
Top cows producing some of our best calves annually, in particular 527! 💯😎
They have been in seperate mobs for a few weeks when the calves started coming quickly so are VERY HAPPY to be reunited FINALLY! ❤️❤️❤️

WOW, thats calving for 2026 done and dusted! BOOM! 😂
x21 cows and x8 heifers (29 all up) in just 28 days - 4 weeks, awesome result! 💪
💯% live calves born, pulled one in the paddock which was back to front - live, no problem! 👍😎
I have never seen a beef herd calve sooo quick in my whole life, absolutely stoked❤️... and also a little shattered!🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ 😉😂😂😂

I had a few DM asking about Rockview Floyd 906 and what he looks like now as a mature bull so here's a recent photo for you all. He is an absolute gentleman to do anything with and we look forward to his progeny in 2027. (AUS Gowan Ross Gentleman AI son born in 2019)

Rockview Red Devons, NZ has come through a challenging season in strong shape, with timely autumn rain helping young stock recover after a slow spring start. Colleen and Ross Hunter say calves quickly caught up in weight, and the farm is now well positioned heading into the next calving season.

The Arapohue-based stud continues to strengthen its breeding programme, with the return of Rockview Floyd 906 generating excitement for future progeny. Alongside a focus on temperament and performance, the Hunters are also embracing drench-free farming practices to support herd health and productivity.

Jeepers, hold my b**r! 🍺
Cows are calving flat out... 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ x3 today.. like 'shelling peas', my mum used to say! 😂❤️ Two weeks in, a third of the herd left..
Calves are awesome and cows an absolute delight.
An added bonus is the native Clematis dripping out of the trees, always a delight at calving time.. ❤️🥰

What a week it has been! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️ 7 days in and over a third of the herd calved. 🤩
Weather has been phenomenal and grass is starting to pump! YAY!!😉
Calves are looking awesome, cows doing a great job! 💯
Rossco even gets to do wake up duties.. 😂❤️

Woohoo, we are into it! 2026 calving has begun.. Lovely 31kg bull calf out of a 2 yr old heifer and what a delightful pair. Happy new mum and by afternoon, bubs is doing laps! So good to see and what we love about our Red Devons!
