It’s been a busy old week and due to high demand we’ve run out of milk at the Deborah store and almost run out at The Totara Store. We will be restocking after 2pm today!

Just a little something extra we have been working on……

Nick and I are proud to bring you The Totara Store opening on Tuesday 9th December!

Our aim is to bring you fresh local produce/goods straight from local farms/businesses to your table.

Included in this is our fresh whole milk - The Natural Dairy, vegetables, fruit, meat, eggs, honey and other stunning local produce. Plus preserves, sauces and condiments and a lovely giftware section.

This project has been a labour of love over the past year and we are really looking forward to welcoming you into the store next week.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.30pm and Saturday & Sunday 9am - 3pm.

The Changing Times in the Natural Dairy…

Things don’t always stay the same. Circumstances change and businesses adapt alongside this.

Glen and Bron built their local milk business with a focus on keeping calves on cows and using
minimal inputs in their farming operation. Circumstances changed and in October 2024 Glen had to change the practices within his business to make the system more practical for his change in situation. This was communicated to his clients via a number of channels. From this point Glen began to source his milk from a third party and not produce the milk himself. One thing he remained steadfast on was that quality local milk, delivered in glass bottles straight to the door would remain.

Nick and Kate remain true to this principle. We are committed to delivering a fresh local product to our customers. The milk we produce for the Natural dairy comes from our ‘natural dairy herd’ 60 –100 cows (depending on the time of year) milked once a day. We don’t leave calves on cows in our farming system and we are not Organic. We are a family owned dairy farming operation and we believe in farming responsibly and sustainably.

We want to continue the milk experience like “The Good Old Days” where the milk is “farm fresh”and local. Milk is in a glass bottle, pasteurised and delivered to your door (or easily accessible locally), open the lid and you can skim the cream off the top if you want too!

While we are still navigating the handover of the business with Glen, we want our customers to
continue to receive a top quality local product. Updating websites and rebranding is in progress to fitinto our wider story. We want the quality, the service and the taste experience to remain the same.

While the story and some of the people have changed slightly, the fresh local product in a bottle
remains!

Meet Mitzi. Mitzi is busy delivering our local “goodness in a bottle” all over Oamaru with a smile and some chat! 🥛
While the owners may have changed, the quality of the product and service remains our priority.
Thank you to all our loyal customers and businesses during this busy takeover process. We look forward to engaging with you and sharing our story….. 🐄

Change is in the air

Hello all,

After much deliberation, Amelia and I have decided on a change of lifestyle.
With some sadness, but also excitement for the future, we have sold The Natural Dairy. As of August 4th we are excited to introduce the new owners, Kate and Nick Webster.
Long time local farmers, Kate and Nick are great advocates for local, sustainable produce and as well as taking on The Natural Dairy, will soon be announcing another exciting venture in this arena as well.
It is very heart warming to see the business continue and I know they will take it to a whole new level.
Though our 5 year journey of The Natural Dairy hasn’t all been roses, it is without a doubt the most rewarding endeavor of my life and the one of which I am most proud.
I can't thank you enough, our wonderful customers, for your incredible support and enthusiasm for what we are doing. I know you will continue to support Kate and Nick going forward and I'm very excited to see the business flourish in their hands.
