Our South Island Single Malt is a great introduction to New Zealand wh**ky.

It’s made from Otago-grown barley, distilled in Dunedin and matured in American ex-bourbon casks at our seaside warehouse in Ōamaru. It won a silver medal in the New Zealand category at the World Wh**ky Awards in London, and it’s the first wh**ky on our Journey tasting flight.

Our Oamaruvian whiskies come with a great story.

Years ago, w**emakers Warren and Deb Preston took more than 200 barrels of Dunedin-distilled wh**ky out of their American bourbon casks and filled them into French oak New Zealand w**e barrels, here in Ōamaru’s harbour precinct. That idea is where the Oamaruvian began.

Our Oamaruvian Cask Strength is matured in American oak ex-bourbon casks and French oak ex-New Zealand red w**e casks, then bottled straight from the cask. It has rich flavours of toffee, dates and soft spices, with a long, lingering finish of Madeira and a hint of Ōamaru sea spray. We recommend adding a few drops of water.

The New Zealand Wh**ky Collection was founded with a singular mission: to rescue, preserve, and release the last surviving aged casks from New Zealand's original distilleries - before they disappeared entirely.

What began as an act of historical preservation became something far more ambitious. Today, we distill in Dunedin and mature in Oamaru. Our wh**ky carries the character of the South Island - cool maritime air, limestone soils, Otago-grown barley - in every bottle we release.

And yes, we have fun doing it.

Ōamaru is well worth a stop on your South Island road trip. We might be a bit biased, as it’s our hometown!

The Victorian Precinct is full of beautiful old limestone buildings, with little shops and galleries tucked inside. Down at the harbour you can watch the little blue penguins come ashore in the evening, and you can’t leave town without trying some Whitestone Cheese. Ōamaru is also the Steampunk capital of the world, so don’t be surprised to see the odd top hat around town.

While you’re here, come and find us at the end of Harbour Street for a wh**ky tasting by the fire.
