Homekill can be about the finest meat you can feed to your family. Ideally grass raised and not medicated unless needed, then shot while happily grazing. No stressful trucking, no unneeded meds, happy animal- dead animal .
However, potential consumers of the meat need to take responsibility and ask all the questions of the farmer, visit the farm and have a relationship of trust to protect themselves from buying into an animal that might not be well.
Yes, as homekill service providers we do check the quality of the meat visually while cutting it up, but we don't have a magic glass ball that lets us know all of what this animal might have been exposed to.
Buy local, know your farmer, go visit them, ask questions and pay them a fair price for the amazing meat they raise.
