One of our beautiful Damara hoggets, fondly remembered for her unusual giraffe-like markings. She was certainly one of a kind and always stood out in the paddock. Animals like her leave a lasting impression, and she remains a special part of our memories here at Lallybroch Livestock. 🩷

Remembering Our Beginnings at Lallybroch

Our Damara × Wiltshire foundation ewes were purchased as lambs from Lorraine Hannay and formed part of the very early foundations of our flock. They were sired by the purebred Damara ram Giovanni, bred by Amy Neale – KEAA Trust. These sheep represented the beginning of our journey into easy-care sheep genetics.

While those early lines bear little reflection of the standard of Meatmasters we have today, they serve as a reminder of how far we have come. At a time when Michelle and I knew very little about Meatmasters, it quickly grew into a huge passion. We soon recognised the incredible traits of the Damara and the potential to develop an easy-care, low-input breed — helping shape what we are today.
