In case you missed it, a message from the board of Mohair Producers NZ:

For all those who have been hanging out for the NZ Mohair Producers Conference, the decision has been made to hold this online this year. This is mainly due to us having to rework the constitution to meet the government timelines around updating this. Regardless of it being updated only 4 years ago. Once we have this complete, we will hold a special AGM meeting to ratify this, and what we ask is for you to join us for that meeting to ensure we get the votes needed to pass this. We will then resume normal AGMs with next year's planning to be held in Blenheim with a few Vinos.

Check out this amazing book developed by one of our awesome Mohair producers. An awesome read with a few patterns as well.

Good morning, everyone. We have some special news to share, just in time for Christmas!

We're delighted to announce the publication of a beautiful new book, DIAMOND FIBRE. This project has been led and developed by one of our members, Veronica Rall of Ad Maiora Angoras, with some financial support from Mohair Producers New Zealand

It's a wonderful celebration of the humble Angora goat and the beautiful fibre they produce. Inside, you'll find lovely photography, a fascinating look at the journey of these remarkable animals, and a collection of unique patterns, from knitting to weaving, contributed by talented New Zealand designers. It’s a lovely read and a practical resource, all rolled into one.

To ensure your copy arrives in time for Christmas Day, (including complimentary gift-wrapping) please make sure you order by the 16th of December.

You can find all the details and place an order on the website: www.admaiora.co.nz. You can also visit Veronica's page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AdMaioraAngoras/.

Thank you for supporting this fantastic local effort.

If you have a project that aligns with Mohair Producers NZ's goals of supporting farmers and promoting our industry, please reach out! We welcome applications for funding to help grow the mohair sector. Get in touch to discuss your idea.

With shearing not too far away, it's time to get things ready to roll.

Let's start with the shed.

💡 Have you got good lighting? Poor lighting can be improved through the installation of well-placed skylights, windows, or through addition of artificial lights. Perhaps the windows need a bit of a clean before shearing begins?

💨 Ventilation. The shed should be well ventilated, as fresh air flow decreases the amount of heat and polluted air inside the shed, creating safer working conditions.

🌿 Removal of contaminants. The shed must be thoroughly cleaned prior to shearing, to remove any contaminants present (such as straw, feathers, bailing twin, or other rubbish), so that fleece lines remain cleaned and pure.

🐐 Flowing design. The shed should be designed to allow for uninterrupted movement of animals, from the pens to the board to the count out pens, to reduce stress.

📦 Equipment. The placement of equipment within the shed must allow for an unimpeded flow of fleeces from the shearing area to the skirting table to the press.

Head to this link to see more such as the equipment list and a guide on how to skirt the fleeces.

It’s time to put Angora Goats on the map in New Zealand!

With mohair fibre and goat meat demand (and pricing) consistently high at a time where many other farming factors are tough, we think it’s time to really showcase how Angoras can tick many boxes and sit beautifully within a sheep and beef farming operation, a lifestyle block and as a stock class of its own.

We’d love you, our current producers and goat lovers, to help us do the heavy lifting.

Are you ready to see the industry thrive?
