One of the absolute highlights of the season

These twins were calved a few days ago by the vet

The little one ( Wee Man ) was basically dead but revived him
Then he got real cold ( and near death again)
So we put them in the Calving Barn , gave him and his bigger brother some colostrum
Next morning there was an improvement, so more Colostrum

Roll on a few days and there’s Donna 401 with her twin sons

Awesome outcome

This is what it’s all for . A paddock full of happy Mums and Calves. The one with the white head belongs to the kids and is what is termed a “Baldy” in the US. The result of crossing their Hereford and Ennis ( the big Angus Bull)

Sorry about the wind noise

Shuttle service, Madison River Angus style…

While shifting the earlier Mums and Calves , this wee girl went awol
2 hours later I found her nestled down by the creek in the sun ( out of the howling wind and no worries in the world)

Thankfully neighbour Jim was on hand to wrestle her up the bank and return her to her anxious Mum

First one sorted.

27kg wee heifer ( bit of a cockup with the weighing…forgot the 1.6kg bucket was hanging on the crate when it zero-ed )

As you can see , she’s quiet and so was mum

Bit rapt with the outcome

Finally!
Our first calf.
When I went to check the girls first thing , they were all huddled in a group
So I figured something was up , sure enough , as they moved away there was a little black blob on the ground.

The mother is one of the Commercial Girls ( Y3 ) we know Dennis is the father
Was due on 23rd August , but obviously decided to take the opportunity of a nice sunny day

Exciting stuff

Corina was out checking on the girls , and for 2 days in a row this little fawn has been hanging out with them
