Behind Paihia lies the magnificent Opua Forest - a living part of our community and a place we believe is worth protecting.

Bush Action is a local conservation charity working to restore and protect approximately 2,000 hectares of native forest around Paihia, Opua and the surrounding Bay of Islands.

Its volunteers and supporters control introduced predators that threaten our native wildlife. More than 70,000 pests have been removed, helping create a safer home for kiwi, kākāriki, weka, pekapeka and the many other species that depend upon a healthy forest.
Why it matters to us

Honey Paihia is shaped by this landscape. The forests, coastal bush and flowering plants of Te Tai Tokerau provide food for our bees, character for our honeys and an extraordinary environment for the people who live and work here.

We support Bay Bush Action because caring for our local environment is inseparable from caring for our community. By contributing to its work and helping share its story, we hope to protect the mauri - the life force - of the forest for generations to come.
