The babies are here!….. last Wednesday exactly 275 days from when the bulls were put in with their cows, we were treated with two good sized calves. Both calves sired by Blackridge UnQuestionable owned by Lowland Park Beef, New Zealand.

Our first calf from our very own Ironclad Unhinged also arrived a few days later.

A few more have arrived safely and just like that we are halfway there.

It’s getting close……

The spreading of Magnesium Oxide onto the girls daily baleage has begun signaling that calving is just around the corner. We do this to prevent milk fever. Such an easy preventative 👍🏻

There are some big tummies and big udders filling.

It’s been all about the lads lately. The Bulls have been in and out of the yards repeatedly for BVD vaccines, new name tags and weighing all in preparation for the next chapter of their careers.

Valiant headed off to join his mate Vancouver down in Mangakino.
Viper took a short trip down into the Waikato and the last remaining R2 headed off to the works as he didn’t tick all the boxes to qualify for a new career.

Now Scania is left with the 3 R1’s to babysit until Unhinged comes back from a working holiday.

Nice to have a few less mouths to feed now that winter has arrived.

It’s been a week now since weaning over Easter. The farm is back to its calm self again and now we can start to look forward and plan for the next arrivals due end of July/August.

We also bid farewell to Wish & Wicket two lovely heifers as they moved to their new home in the Waikato. We look forward to hearing how these girls mature. Thank you Sootydowns Lowline Stud for choosing Ironclad bred Lowlines.

It really doesn’t seem that long ago these calves were just being born. The mothers have done a wonderful job. Weaning this weekend for these well grown bubbas. Time to be big kids…… and a rest for Mum!

Over the past few days I’d been asked for some photos of the boys. Here’s a few that made the cut

Not sure what happened to summer but it hasn’t arrived yet. It feels like for every sunny day there are 3 rainy days. The pasture is lush when it should be dry and the face masks are being applied daily at the moment.
