🤿 Not your average day at the office!

Our team has engaged specialist divers to clean reservoirs across the Wellington region!

This method has provided significant benefits for both the network and customers. By avoiding the need to isolate reservoirs, the team has been able to complete essential maintenance without causing water outages, redirecting supply from other reservoirs, or reducing water pressure in the network.

16 reservoirs have been cleaned across the Wellington region so far with work currently under way at the 20,000m³ Ngauranga Reservoir.

A great example of improving efficiency, minimising customer impacts, and helping maintain the resilience of our water network! 💧

We'll continue to monitor the weather forecast over the weekend, however, heavy rainfall is not expected.

Make sure you follow LAWA's advice and stay out of the water for at least 48 hours.

🌧️ Heavy rain means that there's an increased risk of wastewater overflows!

This is because during heavy rain, stormwater can get into the wastewater network and overload it.

To protect homes, streets and critical infrastructure, the system is built to release pressure at selected overflow points during severe weather events.

Given the recent heavy rain, make sure you follow LAWA's advice and stay out of the water for 48 hours.

Always check LAWA to see if it's safe for swimming and other recreational activities!

Better water services means having safe drinking water, reliable wastewater treatment, and stormwater systems that work when it matters most.

Wellington Water transitioning to Tiaki Wai on 1 July is a necessary structural change to fix long-standing, region-wide issues.

In late July or early August, you’ll receive your first Tiaki Wai water services bill, which will be separate from council rates. Your bill will fund essential upgrades and investments that will improve and maintain water services for generations to come.

There are no quick fixes. Without long-term investment and improved management, the region will face more frequent infrastructure failures, higher repair costs, greater environmental and public health risks, and reduced resilience for future generations.

Improvements will take time, but change is underway.
