Something different for the Picton Wine Club this October session. Boutinot (International) with presenter Greg Day will be with us.
Not quite sure what he will choose for us, but it will be an experience.

Friday night in Picton? What to do? Well the Picton Wine Club gathered at the Picton Theatre to meet Olivia Doonan from Tupari Wines up the Awatere Valley. She gave us insights into their philosophy and intentions as well as 8 different wines for us to taste. Great food matches were provided by Jenny Alexander (and partner?) It was great to see new faces and my apologies for not mentioning you all by name but I left my notes on the table during the clear up and it disappeared. Special mention to Becky M, who has been arranging the wineries this year and has already started on next year.
A very social night was had by all. So look out for the next one. The more the merrier.

The word is out. The next Picton Wine Club Tasting is Friday 4th September with Tupari Wines from the Awatere valley and will be presented by Olivia Doonan, the General Manager. Food matches courtesy of Jenny Alexander.
"Formerly an apricot orchard, the Tūpari vineyard sits at an altitude of 150m-200m atop magnificent cliffs with some of the best views in the valley. These cliffs inspired our name - Tūpari meaning "cliff" in Maori. It is from our vineyard, nestled between our farm and the swift flowing Awatere river, that we bring the essence of our land to the world in our collection of wines."
Held at the Picton Little Theatre with a start time of 6pm.

A big thank you to Tom Pegler, the owner of Huia Wines for coming to the Picton Wine Club and sharing his wines and knowledge. In his own words his is "making a wine that I'm proud of". Also to the food matches which were absolutely exquisite. And remember you can visit the winery Cellar on Rapaura Road and flash your membership card for a discount.

Friday 7th August at 6pm, we welcome Huia Vineyards, with presenter Josh Lee, the Winemaker. Held at the Picton Little Theatre.

Alongside the Wairau River, Huia’s vines grow in a landscape defined by light—reflected in the Māori name ‘Kei p**a te Wairau’, the place with the hole in the cloud.

From the outset, our focus has been on nurturing the land through organics, biodynamics, and regenerative practices—believing that healthy, living soils create more expressive, characterful wines. Our 6.5-hectare home block in Rapaura thrives in free-draining alluvial soils, layered with gravel, sand, and silt. Each year, the fruit seems to speak more clearly—balanced, vibrant, and rooted in place.

What an absolutely wonderful evening with Matt Paterson-Green, the winemaker from Jackson Estate. Twenty three years of knowledge was laid out before us and the opportunity to taste wines which had been aged. How lucky we were. Welcome to Tabitha, Charlotte, Ian and Stephanie.

Good Company, Good Food and Good Wine, all combined to make a wonderful evening at Le Cafe in Picton last night. Thank you to Nick Hunter from Te Kano Estate Wines for making the journey from Central Otago to give us an insight into wines and the estate.
