ASPHYXIA UPDATE 🔥
It's been a while since we've shared an update, and what a journey it has been.
The biggest news? Matt's new lungs are absolutely fantastic! There are currently no signs of rejection, and while we've faced a few complications along the way, the doctors and medical teams here in Auckland have been nothing short of amazing.
The reality is that the length of time Matt was critically ill, combined with the two weeks he spent in an induced coma, has left him with critical illness myopathy and neuropathy. In simple terms, he's had to learn how to walk again. It's been an incredibly tough road, both physically and mentally, but every day brings another step forward.
I also want to take a moment to thank some very special people. To my OG beasties Eve Welch, Emily Gidlow, Colin Evans, Jacinda Waddington, and Stefan and Inkeri from Sisu – thank you. Your ongoing support, encouragement, laughter, and friendship have kept us focused through the darkest days and, most importantly, reminded us that we were never facing this alone.
Matt is still in Auckland Hospital but is hopefully being discharged this week to the rehabilitation centre, Hearty Towers, where the hard work will continue.
If everything goes to plan, we'll be heading back home to Picton around September/October and getting ready to fire up the smokers once again.
