Dang - girl on staaaage! ๐ค๐๐๐ฝ
But what it doesnโt show is the self doubt. The negative chatter. The anxiety I endure EVERY time I have a public speaking engagement.
BUT - the more I do it, the more confidence & authenticity builds.
Public speaking is consistently ranked among the most common human fears. Sometimes even above death! Thereโs a famous saying that people would rather be in the coffin than delivering the eulogy. ๐
ALAS! After visualising myself throwing up and collapsing on stage, I get up there anywayโฆ
And afterwards, when people come up and thank me for being honest, candid and sharing the messy bits (the mistakes & naivety) because it makes them feel less alone - I FEEL ELATED!
Iโll get up on stage a million times if it connects with and helps others in some tiny way.
Because we only really CONNECT when weโre honest. When people recognise their own fears, hopes and dreams in your story. When they realise theyโre not the only ones figuring it all out as they go.
And believe me, Iโm STILL figuring it out.
Two months ago, that same girl burst into tears in a supermarket buyer meeting and had to leave with snot running down her face. ๐
Not my proudest moment. But a teachable one.
A reminder that being vulnerable isnโt always pretty, polished or particularly dignified.
NOBODY HAS IT ALL FIGURED OUT.
Iโm learning that the more I lean into being myself, the stronger I become.
We can do hard things. ๐ช๐ฝ Even when we think we might collapse and vomit in front of an entire room of people.๐คฎ
(Spoiler: it rarely happens.) ๐
So show up. Be honest. Be vulnerable.
VULNERABILITY IS POWER. โค๏ธ
PS - Yes, Iโm taking ๐ค bookings ๐๐
