Amisfield Amisfield - est 1988.
92 hectare single-estate organic Vineyard, Winery and award winning Restaurant. Because at Amisfield, nurturing nature is at our core.
(1957)

In 1988, Amisfield Vineyard was formed around a simple philosophy: to nurture nature at every step. Nestled within the harsh yet beautiful surrounds of Central Otago, New Zealand, we prefer to let nature and the talents of our skilled team do the work. The privately owned 200 hectare estate, once a prominent high country merino station, is now one of the largest single vineyard estates in the Central Otago region. With over 90 hectares of vines under organic management planted beneath the Pisa mountain range, Amisfield produces around 30,000 cases annually
from a state-of-the-art purpose-built winery, with Pinot Noir accounting for over 60% of the production and the balance made up of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chenin Blanc. The Amisfield experience also includes a world-class 3-hat Restaurant and Cellar Door at Lake Hayes, Queenstown. Here, guests can experience the array of wines we produce every year. Amisfield’s commitment to the environment isn’t only reflected in the harmonious way we craft our vintages; we’re an accredited and committed member of the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand programme, which centers on a quality management system and environmental sustainability. Amisfield is undergoing conversion to full organic certification with New Zealand’s leading organic body, BioGro.

550 native plants. One morning. Many hands.

A morning spent with our hands in the soil beneath Mount Pisa, as our teams from across the vineyard, w**ery, restaurant, cellar door and office came together to give back to the land we call home.

With blank canvas adjacent to our Block 1 Rocky Knoll, we saw an opportunity to restore this part of the landscape through native planting.

Lancewood, kōwhai, kānuka, coprosma, olearia and corokia are now in the ground, helping to stabilise the soil, encourage biodiversity and create habitats for native birds, pollinators and beneficial insects. Over time, these plantings will also contribute to capturing carbon and regenerating the wider ecosystem.

A small but meaningful step in our ongoing commitment to caring for this remarkable place, and a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when our people come together.

A Pinot Noir worth paying attention to.
-
Our 2023 Breakneck Reserve Pinot Noir is earning strong recognition, with 94 points from Halliday, 94 points from The Real Review, and 92 points from Erin Larkin for W**e Advocate.

Sourced from Blocks 7 and 7C of our organic estate vineyard, Breakneck comes from low-yielding Pinot Noir vines grown on Lochar sandy loams. Over time, these blocks have developed into some of the most compelling Pinot Noir parcels on the estate, and this 2023 release marks our eighth barrel selection from the site.

The fruit was hand-harvested and fermented in small open-top fermenters, with around 25% whole bunch fermentation, extended time on skins, and 16 months in French oak.

The result is a w**e with depth, tension and persistence. Erin Larkin describes red apple and cherry, fresh fennel and fine chalky tannins, this w**e is set to evolve beautifully over the coming years.

Discover the 2023 Breakneck Reserve Pinot Noir online or taste it with us at our Cellar Door and Restaurant.

As we celebrate Organic W**e Week, this year also marks twenty years since our w**ery at Mount Pisa became part of the Amisfield story.

Our organic journey began in 2015 with a commitment to seek certification. Given the scale of our 93-hectare estate, conversion needed to happen carefully and in stages, allowing us to protect vine health and learn from each block as we went. In March 2016, Amisfield was granted ‘in conversion’ status with BioGro New Zealand.

By 2019, Blocks 7, 5, 6 and the 5 & 6 Terraces were certified organic, followed in 2020 by Blocks 7C, 8, 9, 11 and Chardonnay Terrace. In 2021, we celebrated our first fully organic vintage, with the entire estate under organic viticulture.

For us, organics has never been about certification alone. It is about creating a living vineyard - healthier soils, stronger vines, greater biodiversity and a safer, more considered environment for the people who work the land. We believe caring for the vineyard this way ultimately gives us healthier fruit and w**es that speak more clearly of where they come from.

From our Pinot Noir vineyard life, to robot scarecrows and the restaurant – Gary Barlow and Jason Manford got a pretty good glimpse at what creates the magic of Amisfield.

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming and to Amisfield as part of Gary Barlow’s Food & W**e Tour: New Zealand.

Together with Chief W**emaker Sam Davies, they spent time at our vineyard exploring the site, the way we farm, and how those decisions shape the w**es we make. From there, the story continued to the restaurant – where the same landscapes, seasons and produce influence all that goes to plate.

It was a privilege to share a little of Amisfield and Central Otago with them, and to be part of a series celebrating the people, places, food and w**e that make up Aotearoa New Zealand’s incredible landscape.

UK audiences can now follow the journey on , alongside New Zealand .

Whitebait fritter, a glass of organic Chardonnay.

A familiar New Zealand favourite, brought to the table at our Cellar Door Bistro and best enjoyed with a glass of something from the vineyard.

Welcome to our table.

One vineyard. One place of origin.

Our organically grown w**es are shaped by the extremes of Central Otago and made to express the season, our site and nuances of each vintage with clarity.

PLACE
-
At the foot of Mount Pisa in Central Otago, we grow in a landscape of extremes.

The Pisa subregion runs along the western side of Lake Dunstan, where east-facing slopes catch the morning sun before the mountains cast their afternoon shadow. Warm days give way to cool nights, and the seasons arrive with little ambiguity.

Our vineyard sits within this rugged, semi-continental environment - schist soils, alpine conditions and a climate that asks plenty of the vines. It’s a place that rewards patience and careful farming.

We farm our vineyard organically to work with these conditions rather than against them, allowing the character of the land and each season to find its way into the w**es.

95 points for RKV Reserve Pinot Noir 2019.
-
Shaped by the gravel and sandy loams of our Rocky Knoll Block, RKV is a powerful, layered expression of Central Otago Pinot Noir.

Halliday W**e Companion’s Dave Brookes awarded the 2019 vintage 95 points, highlighting dark cherry and plum, mountain herbs, florals and savoury spice, with a bright mineral line and a long, complex finish.

For those drawn to Pinot Noir with depth, structure and a distinct sense of place, RKV is a w**e to discover.
