So hard to choose my favourite bird but these beautiful, heavy, greedy are definitely up there. Often, as they launch themselves from low trees, they almost skim my head trying to get their full bellies airborne

They eat fruit, leaves, twigs, buds and shoots of both native and exotic trees ā€¦ something to always consider when choosing plant species for your property and farm - how many purposes can my plantings include? Bird forage is always great to include.

Apparently they raise one chick at a time and can raise 3 chick over a good season.

Please share your knowledge of these beautiful NZ Aotearoa native birds ā€¦

Arhhh I feel GREAT after that quick garden refresh

Pushed hard to get it done before going away for 2 weeks

Excited to see if the first of the green manure seeds have germinated on my return

Oh, and the green manure mulch example in this refresh is some ā€œweedsā€ that I determined would mulch down nicely to feed the plethora of worms in that particular garden bed.
Weeds that when cut up heaps wonā€™t self propagate into a nightmare problem
