🚲 Back where it all started 🚲
Last week, Robin and Graeme Oakley had the chance to visit West Melton School and see the Oakley’s iBike Programme in action with Selwyn Sports Trust
For Robin, it was a particularly special day. As a former West Melton School student, it was a trip down memory lane — but also an opportunity to see today’s tamariki building the same confidence, independence, and life skills that come from getting on a bike.
Over the past two weeks, 133 students have taken part in six iBike sessions, progressing through Grade 1 training before heading out onto West Melton’s shared pathways to put their skills into practice. From learning pathway etiquette and hazard awareness to safely navigating intersections and shared spaces, these experiences help young people ride confidently in their communities.
As a lifelong cycling enthusiast, Robin knows the value of cycling firsthand. Seeing students develop skills that will support them for years to come was incredibly rewarding.
We’re proud to support a programme that helps thousands of Selwyn tamariki access cycle safety education each year and grateful to the fantastic team delivering these sessions, along with the staff and students at West Melton School.
💚 Investing in safer, more confident young riders is something we’re passionate about.
