It’s been a busy few weeks working and market gardening but I’m slowly getting a rhythm going. Birds have destroyed my snow peas so my lovely brother brought me something to scare them away. Planted out peas next to the snow peas and so far no birds have tried to get them!! Today is onto the radishes before work and whatever else I can squeeze in. Dinner is in the slow cooker, dogs feed, must be garden time!!!
Happy gardening everyone!!!

Evening farm fam! I’m a bit behind on planting out the potatoes and I still have another bag to plant out somewhere (I’ll find a place for them, promise 👀). You can plant potatoes all year round as long as they don’t get a frost hit them before the potatoes have bulked up. These are my mid crop so about 80-90 days to mature, should be good 🤞🤞I’m calling it a day.

Morning farm fam!! 🌱🌱 I hope your all having a great start to the week!! I have been playing around with some different varieties of lettuce, and even trying some pelleted seeds. Germination was fantastic!! Planting out the next succession of lettuce hoping they won’t go to seed with this weird weather we’ve been getting.
Hoping to have lettuce available next week, I’ve missed havingmy delicious salads 🥗
I’ve decided that I want more for the business (and a bit of a change/break), and that involves more money to accomplish my goals. So… I went and applied for a part time job!! And I got it 🙌🥳🥳. The farm will still be running as normal, I will just have less time to get housework done 😉 with winter coming up fast, the garden will slow down and I needed something to keep me busy. Doesn’t hurt to get paid for it now does it? 😁
I still plan to open a farm stall but the day may change, will let you know when I know what day/times I’ll be working. Happy gardening and have a great day!!!

Morning farm fam 😁 I’m looking at opening up a stall on the farm next week as a trial. Will be cash or bank transfers at this point until I can figure out the best eftpos solution. There is roadworks right out the front so it’s 30km and lights, not sure how long it will be until they finish.
Looking at opening hours 4:00pm - 6pm on a Saturday as main harvest is Saturday morning so it will be nice and fresh. Microgreens and vegetables will be available. Will keep you updated.
Located about 1.3km out of Stratford up Opunake Road. Left hand side. Sign in picture will be out the front. Mirror next to driveway. Shared driveway, we are the left hand one at the back. Shop in shed as you come in.
Feel free to leave feedback and ideas in the comments 🥳 looking forward to seeing you all here!!

Morning farm fam 😁 I have been thinking 🤔…
I’m out harvesting and keeping tabs on the weather for Sunday markets. It keeps changing!! One day says it’s raining, next it’s overcast, then back to rain!!! It makes it hard when I harvest everything that’s ready and then have no way to sell to make it an income to buy more seeds and inputs. Also when it is sunny at markets it’s hard to keep the produce cool (besides rotating it through the chilly bin) and to keep it fresh looking.
So this got me thinking… why not open a farm stall!! Vegetables will be in a chiller to keep them fresh and I’m not relying on the weather for market when it’s raining.
What are your thoughts about this? Would you come out to get some fresh local produce? Will be up the driveway on the property, plenty of parking, thinking of getting eftpos if viable and opening up on certain days so no honesty box.
What would you like it see in the stall? Seedlings? Seeds? Produce wise? Lettuce, tomatoes ect.

Happy Gardening 👩‍🌾

Afternoon farm fam!!! Stunning day today!!! I tried the Prospero Market this morning and it was quite a good day (sales wise as well). I have been busy pulling carrots for the Inglewood Market tomorrow.
I would love your thoughts on whether you would prefer tops on or topped and tailed ( take off the end of the root). The reason I keep topping and tailing is to fit them in fridge/chiller. It’s a lot more work to top and tail but would love to hear your thoughts!!

The day of compost has arrived 🙌🫶 Yesterday I removed the box and set it back up, uncover the pile from the previous move (spiders, spiders and more spiders 😳🥴, and not small ones!) to put in 2 bed. That’s today’s mission, dodging spiders and moving compost. Off to a foggy start this morning while seeding the microgreens, beautiful day now. Might have to mow the lawns just to start filling up the empty compost bin 🤣.
Cover crop has grown beautifully and will be ready to chop and drop soon. Will tarp it and let my free labourers do the rest. Market garden is slowly getting back into shape after a few hiccups and weather related events. It’s a great feeling when you actually achieve something you have set out to do. Start small, do the work, take notes and photos to refer back to (photos are time stamped and a good visual aid for reference), take breaks when you need and most importantly…. Love what you do 🫶🥳

Happy gardening farm fam!!! I’m off to go argue with some spiders about hiding in the compost!!! Wish me luck 😅😅
