Two very different regatta watches, both fresh off the bench — a Citizen and a Seiko, serviced side by side this week.

Regatta dials are one of the trickier complications to work on properly. Instead of counting up like a normal chronograph, they count down, timing a yacht's approach to the start line before racing even begins. That takes a specific mechanism, and it needs a watchmaker who understands exactly how it's supposed to behave once it's back together.
