HOME KILL/PROCESSING! 🥩

Franz the apprentice has been out in the field, working hard and learning valuable hands-on skills from the experienced Paddy at Plateau Processing & Home Kill!

Our home kill and processing chiller at Farmers Quality Meats is absolutely FULL, and our butchers are busy! 🔪🥩

With this killing day alone running for a massive 13 hours, it’s a big effort all round!

A BIG thank you to Paddy, who, despite being busy running his own successful home kill business, continues to give his time and knowledge to help develop the next generation of butchers. We really appreciate it! 👏

RAY THE BUTCHER 😍🥩THROWBACK!!
(He’s going to kill me for posting this 🤣)

Back in 2006, Ray the Butcher was a young apprentice at Taupō PAK’nSAVE, learning the trade that would become his lifelong passion.

Fast forward 20 years, and that young apprentice is now a qualified butcher, business owner and still proudly doing what he loves every day.

It’s pretty special to look back at this photo and think about how far the journey has come — from apprentice to owning Farmers Quality Meats, and now passing those skills on to the next generation.

20 years qualified… what an achievement! ❤️🥩🔪

APPRENTICE FRANZ 🥩

Our apprentice Franz recently headed away up to Auckland for a block course as part of his butchery apprenticeship, building on his theory and practical skills.

We’re really proud of the progress he’s making. Franz has a great attitude, works hard and is showing a real commitment to learning the trade. 👏

For us, taking on apprentices is about more than just training someone for a job. It’s about investing in the next generation and making sure these important skills and traditions continue into the future. 🔪🥩

HELP DAVE HELP OTHERS ❤️

Have you got a good-conditioned trout that you don’t need? Bring it into Farmers Quality Meats and donate it to a great cause! 🐟❤️

Ray the Butcher has always smoked and donated fish to people in our community who need a helping hand. Now the awesome Didymo Dave is taking this initiative even further, collecting spare trout to help support those who need it as well as the amazing over worked doctors and nurses around NZ.

All donated trout will be smoked by Ray the Butcher and put to good use. 🙌

So next time you have a spare freshly caught trout, bring it into the shop rather than releasing it, throwing it away, or leaving it in the freezer!
