To stake or not to stake??
A question our customers often ask is should I be staking my plants ?
The answer is not clear cut always stems back to the individual site. Although not necessary for most sites, bamboo stakes can be a great addition to a planting project especially if it is located in a high wind zone, or has a high w**d burden.
Strategic use of bamboo stakes can save money, time and increase survival rates.
At sites with high wind exposure, stakes prevent lean, rocking and stem snap. The stakes pictured are for a shelterbelt planting on an exposed ridge line. The addition of bamboo stakes will encourage strong, straight plants. Together with appropriate site prep, and targeted species selection the addition of bamboo stakes will get the shelterbelt off to the best possible start.
High w**d burden sites are another great place where bamboo staking plants can be beneficial. Especially if climbers such as convolvulus are present. Staking plants provides a marker to identify where plants are located which is particularly handy when it comes to releasing. At some sites, grass and w**d growth can be rapid and may have smothered plants making them tricky to find !
If bamboo staking in heavily w**d burdened sites, I often spray the top of my stakes with orange dazzle, just to make them stand out that little bit more!
