Now that the nicer weather is here and things are starting to warm up, that means the soil is warming up too ๐ฑ Unfortunately, that also means some of those pesky invasive weeds, like convolvulus, that have been dormant over winter are starting to wake up and pop their heads up again!
If you spot any new shoots of convolvulus popping up, nowโs the time to get in there and try to remove as much as you can, both from your plants and the soil.
Convolvulus grows from vine-like roots that travel underground and can spread quite a distance. When removing it, you want to try and get as much of the root system out as possible, as it spreads and takes over very easily. Even small root fragments can regrow, so try not to leave any behind. Easier said than done sometimes! ๐
If you have a patch in your garden where you know convolvulus has grown in the past but nothing has popped up yet, you can gently hoe through the soil to check for any of those pesky roots hiding underneath. Removing them now can help get on top of it before it starts actively growing.
The roots are usually fairly easy to spot, but they can break pretty easily when you pull them, so take your time and try to remove as much as you can.
With the soil warming up, itโs time to keep an eye out for those pesky invasive weeds and get on top of them early! ๐ฟ
