Standing at the top of Kowhai Downs, the station owned by the Scott family of Tangoio, northern Hawke’s Bay, the view goes on forever – down to Cape Kidnappers and Napier Port and city, over to Te Pohue and Tarawera on the Napier Taupo Road.

The climb up to the station from the smashed Esk Valley or in from the Tutira side, where the bridge and Devil’s Elbow are still being rebuilt, reveals the scarring and damage from the force of Cyclone Gabrielle three years ago.

David and Jill Scott have lived on Kowhai Downs for 16 years, when they took up a two-by-three year lease opportunity. After the first three years, the lessor said he wanted to sell. “He didn’t want to be the richest man in the cemetery,” David says, and they as leasees had some history with the bank so were able to buy two-thirds of the 722 hectare station.

Four years later, they were able to buy the other third with the help of ANZ, and David…

HALLMARK ANGUS 2026 BULL SALE 🗣️🇳🇿🙌🏼🐂

What an incredible day it was from start to finish at the 2026 Bull sale up in the Tutira hills, celebrating all sorts of mile stones including the studs first decade. Geeze Max you’ve covered some ground in 10 years fella, dreaming big & LIVING BIGGER. We are so proud to be making this magic happen by your side for our people.

The x team left driving full of good yarns 5 up in the hilux reflecting on the incredible experience that just unfolded over such a special afternoon with a bunch of awesome farmers from across the country side. Many great chats were sparked around the event thats for sure.

A massive amount of love goes to Max, Lucy, young Macca and the Tweedie family for putting this incredible event on. Truly is a kiwi proud feeling moment attending, showing what rural NZ is all about. We couldn’t be more proud seeing everyone wearing our hoodies, rugby jerseys and hats proudly.

This year the STC team are going to be hitting the road getting amongst 3 HUUGE rural NZ events in both the north and South Island. 1 2 3 - so way to get things cranking!

We’ve also stepped things up in our merch department this year (as it’s a community fave) - hoodies, rugby jerseys, camo caps and beanies are available now - with 100% proceeds going to charity to help the team carry out the mental health work we are doing amongst the communities across New Zealand.

Our goal is to save lives and promote mental health well-being by creating opportunities and spaces that support open, vulnerable conversations, fostering connections and resilience among individuals in the community.

This limited edition merch is now available to pre-order online comment either ‘merch’ or CTB or 🐮 to receive a link to order yours now.

The campaign will be running until June 30th.
