Another great Angus New Zealand magazine. Front covered by the Scott's at Kowhai Downs, over the hill at the top of the Kaiwaka. Great cockies who in particular do an impressive job of their yearling heifer mating year in year out.

Loved the quote...

"Im lucky Jill's never minded living at the end of the road. Though we are closer to the fish and chip shop than we've ever been - so no more soggy chips? We always ask for them with no salt - they stay crunchy for longer - you can always add salt when you get home! "

Next Tuesday 17th March from 12PM - 4.30PM we will be hosting a 'Wormwise for Cattle' workshop.

This on-farm (at Kokopuru) workshop is for anyone with cattle โ€“ weaner calves, dairy heifer grazing, dairy cows or breeding cows; whether youโ€™re a trading or breeding system, this is for you.

Youโ€™ll learn about integrated parasite management systems and how to balance parasite control with drench resistance, empowering you to make informed decisions that suit your farmโ€™s system.

Topics to be discussed;
The worm life cycle in cattle
Managing worms in cattle
The role of refugia in parasite control
Integrated livestock management and its role in parasite control
Strategies for managing drench resistance in cattle herds

We are part of a new study with BBeef + Lamb New ZealandGenetics collecting Worm FEC and Carla and this is right up our alley in breeding more resilient cattle.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Kokopuru Station is own and run by the Tweedie Family โ€“ a diverse Sheep and Beef business located in the Northern Hawkes Bay district of Tutira, approximately 45 mins from Napier.
It is home to the Hallmark Angus Stud.

Kokopuru Station has a total area of 1337ha (1005ha effective)
โ€ข 11,000 Stock units wintered
โ€ข 500 stud females calving
โ€ข 2500 ewes lambed (terminal system)
โ€ข Significant steer and lamb trading component
It can be described as โ€˜not your average stud farmโ€™. Ewes and cows are run in large mobs and shifted on rotation. The steep high country is challenging farmed in big blocks, and the easier, lower country is well subdivided. Providing great mustering opportunities that need a strong team of dogs. The variety of work is huge and involves both the intense detail of individual animal identification and big picture, big mobs and commercial emphasis.

The incumbent 2IC Operations Manager is taking his first farm managers job after 3 years in the business. His progress has been fostered, and his growth has been impressive into a highly capable people and operations manager. We are now looking to replace him with a 2IC Stock Manager. The support for the new role will be tailored to the needs of the successful candidate and pathways will be available for their development.

Kokopuru is a learning environment. Your thinking will be challenged, and your input will be rewarded. We are a culture driven business and give back to our people. We are driven by a genuine desire to make better cattle and better people. Centered around two annual bull sales and a real pride in what we do daily. We are not ashamed of the fact that we are trying to build a worldclass business and intend to attract people who want to be a part of something special.

The new 2IC Stock Manager will need:
โ€ข Strong communication.
โ€ข Sense of pride in the workplace.
โ€ข A positive and fun attitude.
โ€ข Be ready to develop skills in building and creating a team environment.
โ€ข Some experience in stock management.
โ€ข Top stockmanship and a bit โ€˜animal madโ€™.
โ€ข Strong team of dogs.
โ€ข A genuine passion for cattle and breeding.
โ€ข A dedication to measuring and monitoring.
โ€ข Familiarity with technology, or a willingness to learn.
The role will involve stock management, people management, working alongside our service providers and contractors, managing fencing R&M and water upkeep, being a part of designing and developing a growing business.

Comes with:
โ€ข Modern 3-bedroom house
โ€ข Generous salary and perks
โ€ข Great hunting and native bush.

We love a summer student. Someone to share the crutching and all the 'best jobs' with over the silly season. Lincoln student Nicolas Verry has slotted right in here. Shifting cattle in the morning, fencing in the arvo, hunting and training for the goat run after work. Not a TV in view and dodgy internet. No problem. Hes a sharp young fella who represented NZ at the World Angus Forum last year and we reckon he's got a big future. As a bonus hes camped up in the shearers quarters with Aidan Schaff from Helena, Montana. Max's old man met him in a bike shop over there and he's ended up part of the crew. Loves some hard work and a bit of banter - and a fresh view of the world, the boys have rated his yarns. Our summer crew is youthful but we like it that way when the slogs on. Aidens even shorn his first lamb - Nick being a good bu**er and taking the belly off for him...
