EVERY FAMILY HAS ONE. 🍺
The chair that somehow became Dad’s chair. No meeting was held. No paperwork was signed. Nobody remembers exactly when it happened. It just did.
From there, entire family empires have been run. Dad jokes have been launched with absolutely no regard for civilian casualties. Barbecues have been supervised from distances that could generously be described as “helping”. Stories have grown approximately 14% more impressive with every retelling. “Just one quick drink” has occasionally developed its own timezone. And naps have been taken with the television on because, apparently, “I was watching that.”
But somewhere between all the ridiculous little things, that chair becomes something else.
It becomes where advice was given, where stories were told, where problems got talked through, where people came home, pulled up another chair and stayed longer than they meant to.
And maybe that’s the thing about dads. So much of what they give us doesn’t look particularly important while it’s happening. It just looks like time around a table.
Until one day you realise that was the important bit all along.
So here’s to Dad. The jokes. The stories. The questionable expertise. The legendary “quick one”. And most of all, the seat at the table that wouldn’t be quite the same without him.
Happy Father’s Day from 487 Estate. 🍺💛
