Choosing NZ grown food has never been more important. The downstream effect of this simple decision means manufacturing, jobs and diverse farming systems stay in Aotearoa.

Without this we risk our food security, but also our right to eat our own food. We’re drawing a line in the sand, and we need your help.

On Sunday 21st June, the shortest day of the year, and World Localisation Day, we’re asking everyone to have a New Zealand grown meal.

Shop in store for delicious NZ grown and artisan products.
One day. One meal. That’s how we start to make a difference. Join us!

A very sad goodbye to one of our favourite suppliers. Bella Vaca embodied everything we wanted to bring to our community: a Northland based, wholesome product, ethically farmed and packaged and distributed in the most sustainable way. Return of glass bottles is always an effort for everyone involved but our staff were prepared to make the effort if the customers were. We will miss that rich jersey milk. We still have lovely goat milk from Belle Chèvre Creamery and organic cow milk from Durham Farm, both also in glass.
Take a minute to read Jody and Gav’s story and remember to support small producers in your area. I personally love the last line, so true!

Well this is something I wish I wasn't writing, this week is the last week we will be producing milk.
The time has come to make a very hard call, in some ways we're are victim of our own success, and things out of our control. To increase production to keep up with demand we would have to shift the factory off the farm as the over 90 year old Earth Return power line is not capable of giving us any more power. Given the crisis we're looking at in the world right now and investment like that is maybe not such a great option.
Distribution costs have soared in the last 6 weeks with fuel costs 2 and a half times what they were 8 weeks ago.
Then there's the weather, I know we all asked what happened to summer. At the start we thought it was great, lots of rain, no drought but the rains kept coming, and coming. It's got to the stage now that we still have paddock waiting to get grass seed in them when they're dry enough. This makes it too hard to continue milking through the winter.
We have been looking for an alternative supply of Quality Jersey Milk but haven't been able to source any close enough.
Is it the end ? Hard question, at the moment the business is up for sale so it's a case of wait and see, there are people interested but these things take time.
So the last deliveries roll out today and tomorrow.
So to our customers , Thank you
The shops who supported us, you will not be forgotten.
Thank you to Cam and Amy for looking after the cows and pumping the milk out.
Glen and Gav for clocking up over 750,000 kms in the last 5 years alone, and someday loading and unloading over 4 tons of milk. I know you guys have actually made some great friendships out there on the road that will actually continue.
To Lori and the team for bottling milk every day, you know we love ya Freddy 😉
And finally to Jody for holding the place together, juggling milk and vehicles, ( and keeping Gav in line)

Right now it's time for a beer, and then maybe a tear
Thank you

Oops, message for Gav, that 10 years of accumulated sick leave you've got, it expires tomorrow 😊

We know you will love to listen to this Country Life episode about one of our new products, Monty and Sons, NZ “pasta with a provenance”. We are one of only 40 stockists for them around the country and received the first shipment off their new packing machine with the fully compostable packaging. Give the article a read or listen to them harvesting durum wheat in the Wairarapa on the podcast. But most of all, give their pasta a try and support NZ farmers and small producers.

A new packing machine is spitting out pasta as fast as it can be made at Monty and Sons.
