When I popped into Cornucopia Organics this morning, Vegar asked me "Where do you source your locally grown maize from?'🌾
It is grown just up the road, at Te Tua station in Maraekakaho, Hawkes Bay. This land is certified organic, and many people will have used their commercially available Bio-Rich compost.
Our hens have choice - to eat the grain 🌽(accumulating very few food miles🙂), or eat the pasture, or both.
We know that eggs from pastured hens are so healthy, and even better without soy in the feed.

Its a beautiful Autumn day here in Central Hawkes Bay and I thought it would be nice to share a glimpse of what the hens are up to. Mostly, they are enjoying a forage and late afternoon dirt bath....oh there is a wee shot of a bored looking bull.😔
The hen houses are moved every second day so that the hens always have fresh, green grass to enjoy. Eggs from pastured hens are proven to have higher concentrates of the healthy Omega fats that keep our brains healthy!💪

These are next generation of Pasture Poultry hens transitioning from nursery to kindergarten. Looking a bit nervous about taking the first steps out but it doesn't take them long to settle in. It's pretty cosy in the new home. They'll be here till they're big enough to go out into the pastures 🐓🏠🌼🐴
