Worked in restaurants for years and one thing you learn fast, food cost is everything.
Every dish gets costed, every ingredient has to make the kitchen money.

At home it’s exactly the same, just flipped. You’re not trying to make money, you’re trying to save it 😂

So here are the 5 ingredients I am always reaching for to stretch out my meals they are hard working, and genuinely delicious when you know what to do with them.

Oh and the tinned toms, 95c vs $2.69. Same ingredient. You do the maths 🧮

1kg of NZ carrots for $2.79 this week too. Winter root veg is in season it’s a great time to get veggies at a great prices and often even further discounted as there is so much of it!

Parsnips are cheap, seasonal and massively underrated.
This is what you should be doing with them.

Crispy parsnip rösti, garlicky dill yoghurt, soft eggs and chilli oil. All the flavours of Turkish eggs but make it a parsnip.

And we did it mostly with free materials. And we found these hiding in the old beds while we worked. Carrots straight to dip in the hummus for lunch!
